Greg Evans takes Victory at Knighton

Round 3 of the Metzeler ACU British Enduro Championship

Following a seven week break the ACU Metzeler British Enduro Championship returned to action at Knighton in Mid Wales. The heavy rain fall in the lead up to the event left the course very wet in places, but the rain disappeared and Saturday morning saw the cloudy skyline clear. With the event featuring both a MX and a Cross Country Special test, the Knighton event was sure to produce some exciting results over the duration of the weekend.

At the end of the first MX special team it was to be Greg Evans that was fastest in the morning along with Simon Wakely in second place and the returning Matt Ridgeway in third place. Struggling with a right leg injury he sustained at the Sprint was Tom Sagar. At the end of the opening day it was Greg Evans who took the overall win by half a minute over Midwest Husaberg's Simon Wakely, Danny McCanney on the GasGasUK was 3rd and Daryl Bolter on the KORR KTM was fourth, fifth place on the Saturday went to Motocross rider Jamie Lewis.

The Expert class saw Joe Deakin take the win on the opening day ahead of Steve Holcombe and James Giddings. In the Veterans class Wyn Hughes took the event win followed home by Russell Millward and Phil Smithson. The Clubmen class would see Fraser Flockhart take the Saturday win ahead of the close battle for second place between Aled Price and Robert Johnson.

Sunday morning and the good weather continued, with Daryl Bolter setting the fastest first test time by 15 hundreds of a second from Alex Rockwell and Danny McCanney in 3rd in the opening special test. By the end of the Sunday Greg Evans had worked his way into the lead to win the Championship Class. Danny McCanney improved on his opening day result of third place to take second place in the Sunday and also claim the win in the E3 class. Alex Rockwell finished in third place following a bike problem. Fourth place on the Sunday went to early pace setter Daryl Bolter along with Saturday’s runner up Simon Wakely finishing in fifth place.

In the Expert Class the victor on Sunday was to be Steve Holcombe followed by Joe Deakin and Lewis Belfield. Fourth and fifth place in the Expert class went to James Giddings and Tudur Davies. Again Wyn Hughes took the win in the Veterans class ahead of Russell Millward and Phil Smithson in third place, fourth place on the Sunday went to Paul Davies and David Stokes took home the fifth place event. Sunday’s Clubmen win went to Fraser Flockhart over Aled Price and Robert Johnson in third place.

With just a two week break to rest, the riders will now prepare themselves to compete at the fourth round of the 2011 ACU Metzeler British Enduro Championship at the Brechfa Two Day Enduro hosted by the Dyfed Dirt Bike Club.
