Following glorious sunny weather, the opening day of the 2011 Scottish Six Day Trial got underway with a fifty-eight mile tour of the Highlands, taking in a total of thirty sections. Two hundred and seventy six competitors headed off from the starting line at the beginning of a week’s riding.
This year’s event marks the centenary edition of the World famous event and after day one the lead is being held by Gas Gas team mates Dougie Lampkin and Michael Brown after completing the day’s ridings without losing any marks. The initial group of sections at Leanachen proved a tough opening task with many riders losing early marks. After day one third place is current being held by Ian Austermuhle on the Beta ahead of Graham Jarvis in fourth and 2007 winner James Dabill in fifth place.
