Triumph Young Guns is launched to find tomorrow’s winners

• Triumph launches a talent spotting initiative to encourage the next generation of motorcycle racers
• 10 selected riders will receive expert coaching and training during 2011
• The selected winning rider will have a factory supported ride in the Triumph Triple Challenge in 2012

Triumph Motorcycles has launched a unique new talent scheme to turn promising young riders into the UK’s racetrack stars of tomorrow. Known as Triumph Young Guns, the competition is open to all amateur ACU-licensed riders aged between 15 and 23.

Applicants to the Young Guns scheme will be assessed by a panel of judges including a professional rider, the bike media and senior management from Triumph, to select 10 lucky riders, who will be assessed and coached during the 2011 season. As part of the selection and mentoring process, a number of tailored training sessions will take place over the year, focusing on issues such as personal fitness, race craft and marketing/promotion.

The scheme will culminate at the final round of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch on October 7-9 2011, where three chosen finalists will take part in the last Metzeler National Supertstock 600 races of the year. The overall winner of Triumph Young Guns 2011 will be chosen based on their conduct over the year and their performance at Brands Hatch.

Guy Masters, general manager of Triumph UK, said: “We’re really excited about Triumph Young Guns, which is a central part of our motorsports strategy for 2011 and beyond. We’ve put this competition together to find and nurture the next wave of British racing talent. Triumph Young Guns works hand in glove with the Triumph Triple Challenge, which uses our 675 Daytonas, to provide a progressive route for riders to move up the motorsport ranks.”

BSB promoters MSVR will also be supporting Triumph Young Guns and providing a member of the judging panel. Stuart Higgs, BSB series director, said: “Young Guns is an ideal opportunity for aspiring riders to develop a range of skills that they will need at the higher levels of racing. Achieving great lap times is one thing, but this scheme is really designed to give riders a much more rounded set of skills that will help them both off and on the track.”

The deadline for entries to Triumph Young Guns is Friday May 6, 2011. Application forms can be obtained via the Triumph website www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/triumph-world/3342.
