British QX Championship Starts at Silverstone
Goldspeed ACU British QX Championship – Round 1, Silverstone on April 17th 2011
Silverstone, renowned as the home of British motorsport is the exciting new venue for the opening round of the 2011 Goldspeed ACU British QX Championship this weekend. Organised by NORA MX, it will be the first time the championship has been held at this world famous venue. With some of the top riders having already familiarised themselves with the track, it is sure to be a highly competitive afternoon of racing.
Sky TV channel Blood Sweat & Gears have also signed up for another year's coverage of the series, guaranteeing superb exposure for riders and sponsors, not to mention some awesome action to watch on the telly.
Round One will unfortunately be missing a number of riders as it clashes with the second round of the UEM European series in France. So with Mark Watson, Paul Holmes, Jason Macbeth, James Behan and Tom Grant committed to the Euro round in France, it gives a handy advantage to leading names like Paul Winrow, John Mitchell, Carl Bunce, Stef Murphy and James Hellewell. It will give these riders the opportunity to grab some points, as well as the advantage of being able to drop two extra races.
Speaking with the top five finishing riders from last year’s championship, it’s clear that everybody is focused on winning and riding with all the usual guts, skill and determination that has got them to where they are today. Let’s see what they had to say...
Paul Winrow - Current ACU British QX Champion “I’m looking forward to this year’s championship. It’s going to be close. If everybody is injury free it will go to the last race. Mitchell, Macbeth, Holmes and I will be closer than ever. There are some changes to machines, riders on new machines which will keep this season interesting.”
Mark Watson – Second Place in 2010 “This season I’m aiming to improve consistency and reliability. Having taken the most number of wins last year, I want to build on that with some good results”
Paul Holmes – Third Place in 2010 “Despite missing the first round of the championship, my confidence is high. I’m riding a new machine, it’s a new year and I hope to have a successful season.”
Carl Bunce – Fourth Place in 2010
“I think the competitions going to be tougher this year. There are some quick riders out there but I’m aiming to do better, have fun and enjoy myself.”
John Mitchell – Fifth Place in 2010
“Recently I’ve been riding better than ever, feeling fitter and stronger than ever. I’m looking forward to a trouble free season and hoping to be kicking some behinds!”
