With the third round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship taking place in less than a weeks’ time, the Norwich Vikings club have been hard at work preparing the famous Lyng circuit for the next round of the Championship on the 17th April. The track has seen some improvement works carried out over the winter months with the inclusion of a new concrete starting pad. The starting gate has since been relayed and secured to the new concrete pad.

During recent weeks the club members have been busy placing the freshly repainted posts and at this current moment in time only the loop in the field is left to be completed at the end of the week. Following the Bomb scare at Lyng last Friday the site has been given the all clear and the club are looking forward to a good weekends racing. Andrew Hay, Norwich Vikings Club Secretary said ‘the track is looking in great condition and with the continued warm weather, the track will be in perfect condition come race day.’

The MX2 class is set to continue where it left off after Canada Heights with the Wild Wolf Bike It Cosworth pairing of Arnaud Tonus and Zach Osborne battling for the race wins around the sandy Lyng circuit. Both riders performed well at opening round of the FIM World Championship at Sevlievo coming away from the event with strong overall results, Osborne finishing 5th and Tonus in 7th place. Meanwhile the likes of Local rider Elliott Banks-Browne will be looking for a strong result in front of his home fans, while Mel Pocock and Bryan Mackenzie all looking to close the gap on the leading pair.

The MX1 class this weekend will be missing Shaun Simpson, the current championship point’s leader will not be competing the whole series due to commitments with his team to race the Belgium Championship. This promotes Jason Dougan into the lead of the championship ahead of Brad Anderson and Kristian Whatley, who produced a superb second overall performance at Canada Heights. While the Buildbase CCM riders of Tom Church and Stephen Sword will be looking to regain some of the points lost in the opening two rounds of the championship.

Also competing at the event will be the MXY2 which will race across two races on the day. The championship is currently being led by Jake Shipton ahead of Ryan Houghton and Bradley Pocock. The MXY2 is a chance to see the stars of tomorrow competing on the main stage.

For information to the lead up to the meeting on the 17th April keep a check on the www.mxgb.co.uk website. The action will begin at 9am with Practice and the First race at 12:15pm. The circuit is easily reached from the A47 trunk road to the west of Norwich.
