What’s on this Weekend
Now that the 2011 Season is well underway in all disciplines, each week we will be highlighting one or two events in each sport, just to give a flavour of what ACU activities are taking place around the country.
Motocross
This weekend the famous Hawkstone International will take place at the fantastic Hawkstone Park venue. With a rider entry that includes the likes of Tanel Leok, Steve Ramon, Clement Desalle, Sebastien Pourcel, Marcus Schiffer, Arnaud Tonus, Valentin Teillet, the best of our British riders will also be headed by the returning pair of Max Anstie and Tommy Searle in MX2 and the likes of Shaun Simpson, Stephen Sword, Tom Church and Brad Anderson in MX1. The racing is set to be fraught and action packed at one of the best loved British Motocross tracks in the country.
Also on Sunday the team behind the newly rebranded Phoenix Tools Premier Motocross Championship will be hosting the opening round of the 2011 season. The first meeting will take place at the Landrake Circuit on the 20th March with a number of the top quality National Expert Riders looking to make a strong start. With a bumper line-up of riders including the likes of reigning champion John May, Darren Styles, Jordan Rose and Luke Hill, everything is in place for a superb start to the season and the Landrake circuit is one of the best venues for it all to begin.
On Sunday at Silverstone the NORA MX club will be holding the opening round of their Quad Motocross championship. With a line-up of 160 riders, Britain’s most popular Quad racing club has a bumper entry for the start of its nine round 2011 championship. Heading the line-up is eleven times British Quad Cross champion Paul Winrow (Honda) who will face stiff competition in the Expert class from KTM’s young factory stars, Mark Watson and James Hellewell (British Under 21 Champion). The action starts at 9am in the morning with practice sessions for each group and then three blocks of races per group.
Road Racing
The Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Race Club’s season gets underway on Saturday (19th March) with a Test Day allowing competitors to blow away the cobwebs and a little more time to get up to speed, before the serious business begins with at Round One of the Darley Moor Club Championship on Sunday. Prices for the event are as follows, Saturday Admission is £6.00 for Adults, £3.00 for Senior’s with Practice beginning at 10.00am through to 5.00pm. Sunday admission Adults £11.00, Senior Citizens £6.00, kids under 16 free, parking & paddock transfer free, with Programmes £3.00. Sunday Practice begins at 10.00am with the first race expected at 11.30am.
Also the weekend, the NG Motorcycle Club will be hosting the opening round of the NG Road Racing Championship. The opening round of the Series is packed with a 20 race programme on both days. Classes range from 125’s all the way through to Superbikes. The event will take place at Brands Hatch on the Indy Circuit and is sure to create some close racing. Entrance prices for both days are £13 for an Adult and Children Under 15 are free.
Trials and Enduro
The Kingston DMCC club will be holding the 3rd Round of the South Eastern Enduro Combined Championship at Blackwood Forest in Hampshire. The event will start at 10am and features Championship, Expert, Vet’s, Clubman and Sportsman classes, with a course laid out over 10 miles on land owned by the Forestry Commission. This will be the 10th year that the event has been run on this land and Sunday should be another top class event.
The Otter Vale Motorcycle Club will be holding the opening round of the British Youth A & B championship at Wolversleigh Farm in Sidbury, Devon just off the A375. The event will consist of three laps made up of 12 sections per lap. With over 25 riders in the A class and 15 in the B class it is sure to good day of Trials action, over the loose terrain which makes up the course. The event is due to start at 10am.
