What’s on Weekly
This week’s ‘What’s on Weekly’ features more events from around the country. With nearly 50 events taking place over this weekend under the ACU banner, here is a selection of just a few.
Motocross
In the Eastern Centre the Halstead Club will be hosting the second round of the Eastern Centre Championship at Wakes Colne on Sunday. The Wakes Colne circuit has been a venue for British Championship events for many years in the past. Following on from the opening round held at the beginning of March where former British Championship battled with Jake Nicholls for the win, this time around Nunn will have a strong line-up of Expert riders including Chris Bastick, Syd Bales, Aston Bird and Jason Morland all looking for glory. With practice starting at 10am and the first race starting soon after practice.
On Sunday the East Coast MX Club will be hosting their first meeting of the season at Thoresway Motoparc. A line up of six different groups which include the Expert’s and A class riders racing together, the other groups include Intermediate B, Novice open and MX2 classes, Vets and 35-40yrs and a Small wheel and Big Wheel class. With a good line up of 140 riders across six groups and a fifteen race programme there should be plenty of close racing during the day.
Trials
This weekend see’s the second round of the TRC Truck sponsored ACU Events British Trials Championship. The second round of the championship incorporates the Anthony Rew Trial down in Devon and is being hosted by the West of England MCC at Kelly Farm, Lustleigh just off the A382. With excellent car parking close to the heart of the action, the event takes in some large granite boulders covered in moss just to add to the challenge. Practice for the event takes place on Saturday between 3-5pm with the event starting at 10am with the Youth and Expert B heading out first before the Expert A and then the Championship class. The meeting also has the added excitement of Jack Challoner going up against the dominating James Dabill.
South Birmingham MCC club will be hosting the DK Mansell Trial. The event will be a two day event starting at the Lazy Trout Café in Marshbrook, with both days events counting towards the Luscombe Suzuki Leeds Sidecar Championship. The Saturday event will start as the riders set off at 11am and will see the riders take part in 38 sub sections around a 20 miles road course. Sunday’s event is a replacement for the recently cancelled Welsh Trophy Trial as the South Birmingham club kindly agreed to step in a host the event. This event will see the Solo riders starting at 10am and then the Sidecars shortly after at around 10:20am.
Grass Track
Sunday 3rd April the Ledbury MC & LCC will be holding a Grass Track event at Hazle Meadows, Ross Road in Ledbury. The meeting features eight different classes all racing for top honours, with a range of Solo, Sidecar and Pre 75 classes the event will have plenty to offer for all who go along to spectate. The action starts at 10:30 with practice and the first race starting at 12pm.
Road Race
This Sunday 3rd April will see the Auto 66 Club back at Elvington Park for a round of the Northern Three Parks Road Race Championships. A good entry has been received and hopefully there will be 22 races commencing at approx 11.00, with practice from 10.15. Unfortunately due to restrictions on noise the club have had to curtail the use of the public address system for the spectators, this is a measure that had to be taken to help safeguard the venue as it is the only one in the Yorkshire area where junior riders can compete in road racing, a very important training ground for future British and World Champions. Admission is adults £10 accompanied children 15 and under are free as is parking. Simply follow the Yorkshire Air Museum signs off the A64 and when you get to their main gate, turn right onto the airfield.
