Official Statement from Burton & Leicester Grasstrack Association

The club offered to host the British Championships following loss of venue at Midshires and took on the event with 100% committment at short notice based on the originally agreed format.

It is now quite obvious, despite what the club and its committee had in place that the event would not come up to the standards of what is expected from the grasstrack community, be it the inclusion or exclusion of a support class, or what people consider track conditions would be and that the club would be dammed if they did and dammed if they didnt......

We recognise that individuals have the right to exercise freedom of speech - whether or not this is considered constructive criticism or aimed purposely at individuals within the club, but this being said, it does not enthuse the club to put time and effort into putting on an event when it is deemed as a failure before it even happens. . With freedom of speech comes freedom of choice and the club now wishes to exercise their freedom of choice and withdraw their offer to host the event.

The club apologises to the riders and spectators who have genuinely supported the club in the past..

Whilst the ACU is saddened to receive this information we fully respect the decision of the club in not wanting to run a major event so soon after the wonderful efforts to run the FIM Gold Trophy Events last month.

The ACU is in consultation with potential organisers in order to ensure that the British Championships can take place this year, and an announcement will be made as soon as possible."
