Goldspeed British Quads and Maxxis Sidecars in the South West

Leading the GOLDSPEED ACU British Quad Championship by fourteen points after the opening double-header at Desertmartin, current British Quad Champion, Paul Winrow, will be hoping for a similar result as he tries to secure his 11th British Championship title, but round one leader John Mitchell has proved that he is back up to speed and will be focusing on reducing the deficit. A superb display in Ireland saw Carl Bunce come away in 3rd a further nineteen points adrift, but hot on his heels with just four points splitting the trio are Mark Watson and Jason Macbeth, former British Sidecarcross Champion Watson showing he has adapted well to four wheels with a recent European Championship race win in Italy, while 2009 Weston Beach Race winner Macbeth will be aiming for the podium once again. Rounding out the top six and leading the British Under 21 class, Stefan Murphy should also do well around the fast and furious Wrangway venue, while current European Quad Champion Paul Holmes has clearly put the disappointment of the opening meeting behind him and is a strong challenger for the podium, Holmes taking a fantastic overall win at the recent European Championship meeting in Poland. Flying the flag for Somerset and no doubt aiming for a good result in front of his home crowd to repay the faithful sponsorship from Yeovil based MD Racing, twenty-two year old Liam Cater from Martock continues to build on his excellent 4th place at the 2007 Weston Beach Race, Cater currently sitting 15th in the European Quad Championship and 18th in the British Championship, returning recently from a racing and training trip to the USA where he hopes to compete in 2011.

With just three rounds of the MAXXIS British Sidecarcross Championship left to run, and having been beaten in only one of the previous twelve heats, the Cheshire pairing of Stuart Brown and Luke Peters have built up a healthy sixty-one point lead as they battle to retain their title from Scott Wilkinson and David Keane, Horndean’s Wilkinson having an uncharacteristic bad day at the office at the previous meeting in Frome and dropping valuable points to the leaders, Wilkinson’s misfortune also allowing local Somerset heroes Dan and Joe Millard to reduce the deficit to just four points, the Midsomer Norton duo taking a superb 2nd overall at Frome and showing why they are currently 12th in the World standings. Steve France and Lee Machin’s consistent results over the previous four meetings have helped them to 4th in the tables, but they will surely come under pressure from the resurgent crew of Andy and Tim Breacher who took the final step on the rostrum at the previous round and are just seven points behind.
Action gets underway with practice at 9.30am with the first of the British Championship races planned for 11.00am. With a total of six British Championship races planned for the day featuring the best riders at National and International level, the event promises some fantastic action not to be missed. Wrangway circuit is located just outside Wellington and will be signed from the A38 Wellington Bypass, with Junction 26 the best exit from the M5.
