ACU EVENTS along with Rideoffroaduk are bucking the downturn and investing in grassroots off-road sport by starting a new introductory Hare & Hounds XC series to run over three events in 2010 – with the emphasis on fun riding.

Specifically aimed at new, clubman, veteran, female or fun riders, the XC series will be a fantastic platform for enthusiasts or riders wanting to try out enduro sport as it will visit some of the very best venues in the UK.

The series starts at the nostalgic Norwood Teversal venue in Nottinghamshire on April 11th. Norwood was the place where televised scrambles took place back in the 60’s and is littered with history. Round 2 takes place on July 18th at the stunning Lee Dell near Rochdale which offers acres of open going in a hidden valley strewn with old mill ruins. The final round will take place on September 19th at a new venue in Lincolnshire.

“With the ACU Events backing and Rideoffroaduk organisation, the new XC series will be run to the very highest of standards with excellent courses, top notch facilities and all the safety and insurances in place that you would expect from a top British Championship event – but all geared at fun riders,” explained ACU Trials and Enduro Chairman John Collins.

“Well done to the ACU Events for investing into the sport at this difficult financial time; it is leadership like this that will see the sport grow and thrive and at the same time gives license holders more choice for riding.”

The new XC series has been formed after months of negotiation between Collins, the ACU Events Frank Carter and rideoffroaduk event director Wayne Braybrook. Having identified the need for a specific series aimed at the novice ability riders, the classes catered for are Sportsman/Hobby, Over40, Over50, Ladies and Clubman only.

Rideoffroaduk’s Wayne Braybrook said: “With many high profile organisers targeting the Pro / Expert class riders we feel that the most heavily populated classes at most Hare & Hounds events deserve their own official XC series. It has long been an aim of mine to cater for the masses who enjoy the sport, these riders are the lifeblood for enduro.

“The events will be tailored towards straightforward, safe, enjoyable tracks to compete on.”
