New circuits set Maxxis ACU British MX Championship up for vintage 2010

LITTLE SILVER in Devon and Mallory Park in Leicestershire will kick off the 2010 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship with the legendary Farleigh Castle circuit coming on to the calendar later in the year.

The three new circuits for 2010 all provide unique challenges for racers and are sure to shake-up the establishment, as well as open the growing Championship to new audiences.

Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship Series Manager Brian Higgins said: “We have pushed the Championship to further heights with the inclusion of three exciting new circuits in 2010. The idea is to broaden the appeal of the Championship to new audiences and give the riders new challenges and keep the racing fresh.

“Little Silver in Devon is a fantastic hill-side circuit that can be used in any weather and gives 100 per cent viewing for spectators. It is well established, easy to get to and is the perfect start to the 2010 Championship.”

For the second round at Mallory Park in Leicestershire, the home of the British MXGP for 2008-2009, a completely new initiative is on trial. Road racing and motocross fans are being invited to mingle. Higgins said: “Mallory Park is a great facility and we are breaking new ground at this round because it will be running alongside a New Era Club road race meeting at the track. MX fans will have free access to the road racing and vice versa, hopefully opening the action of both to new audiences. It also represents fantastic value for money per ticket.”

Farleigh Castle, one of the most historic venues available, is new to the calendar as well, coming in at round six and with its natural layout, will provide fast and flowing races. “Farleigh Castle is a traditional venue steeped in history and I am delighted we are going back there, it will be a very special event,” enthused Higgins.

“We had more circuits and organisers bid for a Championship round than we have rounds in 2010 and I would like to thank them all for showing such a strong commitment and interest in the series.”

“The ACU has worked hard to broaden the scope, appeal and excitement of the Maxxis Championship and these new circuits – along with the excellent existing venues - are sure to whet the appetite of race fans. A new single support class will operate in 2010 as well, giving real exposure and value to these classes. This is only the start of the changes we plan for 2010 and we will be making a further announcement next week once all the contracts are in place.“
