Plater snaps up first TT win

Steve Plater aboard his HM Plant Honda took a thrilling maiden TT win during the Senior race at the TT.

In only his third visit to the arduous 37.73 mile circuit the Lincolnshire man picked up the most sought after win as his first. The podium for the TT was certainly unusual with Manx man Connor Cummins in second place and another young-gun, Gary Johnson in third.

The race started in the usual fashion with John McGuinness, team-mate to Plater, hurtling into the lead. He broke his own lap record on his first lap from a standing start posting an average speed of 130.953mph.

Not content with breaking the lap record McGuinness pulled out all the stops to hit the 131mph mark on his second lap even thought he was slowing for a pit stop. His average speed was 131.578mph.
Plater was also impressively fast as he put in two back to back 130mph laps. Another Senior TT favourite, Bruce Anstey on the Relentless Suzuki had a nightmare race going out on lap two with what looked like a blown engine.

McGuinness was sprinting away with the lead when his chain came off at Cruickshanks. This promoted Plater straight into the lead, Cummins second and Guy Martin in third.

Martin is yet to break his duck at the TT by picking up a win and the Senior was just another race that didn’t go his way. He was holding third when he came in for his second pit stop, unfortunately he didn’t manage to exit the pits as his came fell off on the way out - disappointing end to his TT week.

With Martin out of the picture Ian Hutchinson on the Padgetts Honda stepped in. his potential podium finish was halted when he crashed out unhurt at Quaterbridge.

Cummins was in it during this lap posting his first 130mph lap making him the fastest Manx Man round the TT course.
