For years British race fans have lamented the lack of British talent gracing the World Stage, well now they have absolutely nothing to complain about with a total of nine riders taking part in this year’s Donington Park World Superbike round on the 27th-29th June.
In World Superbike we have four regular riders two of which have achieved podium finishes. Tom Sykes, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea have been giving us something to cheer about with Haslam and Rea stepping on the podium. Championship wise Rea is fourth, Haslam sixth, Sykes seventh and poor old Shakey Byrne is languishing in 15th. Despite that it is still a very good showing for the Brits.
At Donington Park the regulars will be joined by three Wild Cards, namely Airwaves Yamaha’s Leon Camier, James Ellison and MSS Discovery Kawasaki’s Simon Andrews. All three have the benefit of having raced the British Superbike round at Donington Park recently so they will be set-up and ready to go.
Camier is currently leading the British Superbike Championship and will be out to make his mark at this event as it is the ideal opportunity to show the World teams what he is made of.
In Supersport the Cal Crutchlow and Eugene Laverty battle is set to rage but they will also have some Wild Card company in the form of James Westmoreland on the JW Racing Triumph.
Crutchlow on the Yamaha is just nine points clear of Laverty on the Parkalgar Honda, the gloves will be off as they both fight it out for home victory and vital Championship points.
This is one race meeting not to be missed. For further details on the event please visit www.worldsbk.com.
