Dougie Lampkin rode his second Colin Appleyard British Solo Trials Championship round in his native Yorkshire at Skipton on Sunday 5th October and won the tough event by a country mile. The multi World Trials Champion did not play any part in the final scoreline at the Bradford Motor Club event apart from taking 20 Championship points for his victory.
For reigning Champion Graham Jarvis it was crucial that he finished ahead of 21 year old Scarborough International Michael Brown, which he did, by a single penalty point. Jarvis established a 2 point lead on the first lap then a second and third lap just shaded Brown’s strong challenge. Just 2 penalties separated the riders at the end of the event.
Barnstaple graphic designer Joe Baker rode the Skyrakes sections with great skill leaving 17 year old Halifax rider Jack Challoner no chance in what was another title battle, this time for the Expert class. Challoner took the 125cc capacity class crown on his Beta-UK.com machine.
Skeeby 16 year old Jonathan Richardson won the non-Championship Youth class from Ipswich rider Jack Sheppard and Kendal’s Jonny Walker.
Conditions leading up to the trial featured high winds and torrential rain, especially during the Saturday pre-event practice session but Sunday dawned with clear blue skies, a cold easterly breeze, and no rain!
It was also the final British Championship event at Skyrakes Farm, courtesy of Mr and Mrs Harper. Bradford Motor Club will seek a new venue for the 2010 Championship Trial.
