Moto Star at Silverstone

Swindon’s Aiden Simmons will be looking for his third win in as many rounds in the 80cc Sports Production class on the Metrakit 80, whilst in the bigger 125cc Motrac backed Sports Production Peter Sutherland has the series lead after playing his joker (doubling his points) last time out.  He is still looking for his first win on the RS125 Aprilia after Cameron Wilson took round one and George Hogton-Rusling at round two.

20 year-old Yorkshireman, Jonathon Lodge with his RS125 Honda tops the GP125 class, snatching the series lead from his 17 year-old younger brother James at Croft. At aged 14 Northern Irelands Mark Hanna is riding with great maturity and rode well at Croft in the tricky conditions to elevate him self to third in the title race.

In the Colin Appleyard 125 Academy Cup for riders aged 13 to 18, James East and Martin Glossop are tied at the top of the table… both on RS125 Hondas… both looking for Silverstone glory.

Chesterfield’s Lee Dickinson is the man to catch in the chase for the Replicast / Bike Sport News British 250cc Championship but expect Somerset based Alex Kenchington and 19 year-old Toby Markham from Kent to be on the case. Kenchington suffered at Croft and will want to make amends. Keep an eye out to for experienced Derek Welch, he has already tasted Silverstone glory this year, so could that extra track time pay dividends. Local Rushden, Northants man Phil Desborough could spring a surprise though on his 250cc Aprilia.

Another rider to take advantage of the joker system, which allows a rider to double his points at any given meeting, was Mike McLean in the ACU Suzuki GSXR Trophy. McLean from Brampton leads by just one point from Lee Hodge, who after tasting victory at Brands and Croft will be looking for another 25-point haul and 3 wins in a row. All riders compete on identical GSXR 600 Suzuki’s.

Lancashire crew John Holden and Andy Winkle are the pair on form in the Yokohama ACU/FSRA British F2 Sidecar event, with a healthy series advantage as we enter this round. Expect to see Simon Neary and Stu Bond to be at the front but it could be Scunthorpe pairing Nigel Connole and Jamie Winn that step up the pace after a fine start to the season with two strong podiums so far.

With each class receiving plenty of practice and qualifying as well as the main championship race, and a short sprint race there is a full day of two and three-wheeled action around this wide and fast Silverstone circuit
