The Moretonhampstead and West of England Motor Club staged the opening events in the ACU Luscombe Suzuki Leeds British Youth trials championship at Bovey Tracy and Hennock on Saturday and Sunday in very mixed and varying weather conditions.
On Saturday at Bullaton Farm, Bovey Tracy, the four youngest classes in British motor cycle sport contested the opening event in the six round series. Competitors travelled from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to compete. The honours stayed in Devon and Cornwall when Newton Abbot’s Billy Green won the day riding his Beta machine, and also on Sunday at Bottor Rock Farm, Hennock. He leads Class C medium wheels category.
Toby Martyn also excelled on his RCM Beta in Class C standard wheels with a second and third places behind Yorkshire double winner Jack Peace. West Yorkshire youngster Edward Earle also took a double victory in Class D medium wheels riding his Appleyard Beta.
James Marshland and Ben Dignan won Class D small wheels but Marshland was taken to a most cleans tiebreaker by Jamie Williams on Sunday. That result puts Marsland two championship points ahead of Dignan with Williams on thirty points. The West Country boys will pose a major challenge this season.
The next event in the series will be held at Scarborough on May 26.
