The ACU’s Trials and Enduro Committee wishes to congratulate the British riders that performed so well highlight at Round 7 of the SPEA Trial World Championship in the Czech Republic on 15th July 2007.

For many years Dougie Lampkin has flown the Country’s flag at the World Championship Rounds, this latest event saw Dougie relegated to second place British rider.  Whilst he will no doubt be looking forward to Hawkstone Park and eyeing the top step of the podium, with memories of 2005, congratulations must go to James Dabill.

James’ ever improving ability and results has been a joy to witness, since his total domination of the 2005 Junior Trial World Cup through to this latest achievement and his current 7th place in this years Championship.  2005 saw him win all rounds except the first in the Junior Championship, then transferring across to the adult Championship for the final two rounds, scoring points and finishing 17th in this Championship.  For 2006 James became the UEM Trials Champion, winning 3 of the six rounds and finishing within the top 10 (9th) of the World Championship.

Following in James’ tyre marks, the Junior World Championship podium in Czech Rep could well have been a British Championship round with Alexz Wigg (1st), Michael Brown (2nd) and Sam Haslam (3rd) all standing proud as the National Anthem played.  The current Championship results see Michael Brown heading the table he finished 3rd in last year, by 31 points, from 2006 Youth Champion Alexz Wigg 2nd, Sam Haslam 6th and Lee Sampson 7th.

The Youth Championship also saw an ACU licence holder climb the podium as Ross Danby, although still searching for his elusive victory, recorded another Runner-up placing.

John Collins, Committee Chairman said,  “Dougie’s World Championship success over the past decade has inspired many young Trials riders in this Country, but this inspiration is fast catching him up.  Our future Trials stars will also be looking towards their respective Championship podiums and I’m sure with the Hawkstone crowd’s backing, there is every reason to believe that we could see three British victories at the end of the month.

Further satisfaction is gained from the ACU’s commitment to rider development with each of these young stars gaining valuable assistance from the ACU Under 23 Squad.”
