ACU British Supermono Championship

All riders and Teams relishing a titanic battle. With the lights out the front four lead into Gerrards, albeit pole sitter Lawes still getting used to the Team James Pami/GRC water-cooled machine, in 4th.

Visiting Edwina’s for the first time Lawes, unsuccessfully attempted to make up positions and fell. The following 7 laps saw English and Hutchison trading places each lap, with George hunting them down after having to take avoiding action from Lawes. Lap 9 saw George take the lead for the first time, but with no clear advantage a superb 2nd half of the race beckoned.

Unfortunately, two incidents prevented the battle continuing, firstly with a shower of rain falling, enough for the tyre tracks of the slick shod machines to be visible then with Scott Richardson falling at Edwina’s, causing the Red Flags to come out, but as Richardson and his machine were collected from the track, riders and Club officials were in discussion on the start line as to the remaining laps.

Whilst the Club were more than happy to hold a two-part race, the riders and Teams requested that with a view to the now cold slicks tyres and the uncertain conditions, the result should be declared from the completed 10 laps instead of the scheduled 18 laps.

Race Result 1st Glen English 2nd Alex Hutchison 3rd Mark George

Championship Positions (after 2 rounds) 1st Alex Hutchison 45pts 2nd Glen English 36pts 2nd Mark George 36pts

The next round of the British Supermono Road Race Championship is due to take place at another New Era MCC meeting, Cadwell Park 29th – 30th July 2006.

The 3rd Round of the European Supermono Road Race Championship has been invited to run with the British Superbike Championship event at Snetterton 16th – 18th June 2006.

Competition rules: The main rules for both the European and ACU British Supermono Road Race Championships are that the machine has only one cylinder and a minimum weight of 95kg. Obviously turbo and supercharging are illegal, but the rest of the detail is open to the engineer/teams interpretation, giving rise to a Championship with a huge variety of machinery on the grid.
