Easy as 1, 2, 3 at Bumpy for OSET Bikes

The first round of the ACU Youth British Championship, sponsored by OSET Bikes, kicked off in style yesterday at Bumpy, Leeds.  The D-Class small wheels was dominated by OSET again, who took the top three podium places.

OSET Bikes heads into the new season as it finished the last one – in control and enjoying winning ways.  For Welsh dynamo, Lewis Hurdsman it certainly was as easy as 1,2, 3!  The Llangollen youngster dropped just 4 marks on the first lap, an unlucky one, second time round and finished with the only clean lap in his class – remarkable riding in what were very slippy and tricky conditions and a deserving winner!

It was a podium first for Myles Hutchinson, who last year had been so close with a number of fourth places.  Taking the second spot from Dominic Horne, the two Yorkshire lads, who both ride for Bradford DMC, were split by just one dab!

An impressive 21 riders stepped up to compete in the D-Class – three quarters of which were riding an OSET.

Ian Smith, founder of OSET Bikes, was at the trial with son Oliver, who rode B-Class and his youngest son, six year old Elliot, who competed at this level for the first time and was rewarded with a huge box of Haribo for his efforts.  Ian added: “The depth and breadth of talent that OSET Cups produce is phenomenal.  There were riders from the Isle of Man, Cornwall, Yorkshire and the North West – all of whom started out at their local OSET Cups.  It really demonstrates that grass root level events are perfect for feeding into the sport and helping give kids the confidence to ride to the best of their ability and at the highest level.

“The event as a whole was really well organised and set out.  Bumpy is a small venue and with a bumper entry of nearly 80 riders across five classes, the organisers did a fantastic job in ensuring challenging courses for everyone.”

The event was held in memory of Julian Ford who sadly died in October last year.  Julian, had been a big part of the Bumpy family for many years and was a huge ambassador for youth trials, was very much missed.
