Great days racing at Snetterton for BMCRC

Thursday September 11, 2014 at 2:05pm
Steve Palmer was crowned EDIasia Formula 400 champion at the final round of the season, despite giving up 13 points to his closest rival, Francesco Cavalli, over the four races.

However, arriving at the final round still in with a shout of the championship, albeit mathematically, was Dan Ruth, who took three of the four wins.

Ruth did the double on Saturday. In race one he pulled a gap of a second to take the win ahead of Cavalli and Palmer. Ruth's win in race two came after an even closer battle. Mirroring the podium of race one, just six tenths of a second covered all three riders.

Palmer recovered some lost ground in Sunday's opening race, finishing second behind Ruth, with Cavalli third.

In the final race Cavalli and Ruth went at it for the race win, with Cavalli securing it by half a second, with Palmer coming home third and taking the championship.

The Sub-64 championship also went to the wire, with championship leader Graham Higlett retiring from Saturday's second race with electrical issues. However, his class win in race one on Sunday saw him awarded the championship crown.

Tim Looker wrapped up the Rookie 400 championship, helped in part by Mark Thompson, his nearest championship challenger, who dropped out of contention in race one.

With Thompson absent from the rest of the weekend's action, Looker claimed the 2014 Rookie title.

DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters

Graham Higlett wrapped up the 2014 DFDS Seaways Yamaha Past Masters with a round to spare, taking all four wins at Snetterton.

Higlett was pushed hard at the front, but held off the challenges of Pete Moore and Matt Barber in race one, and then Barber and Doug Edmondson in race two, to be crowned champion.

He then took both wins on Sunday ith Barber second and Moore third in race one, before Edmondson took another second place in the final race, with Barber third.

Paul Davies took two Clubman wins with Paul Whitby and James Sharpe taking the others. Michael Stanley all-but wrapped up the Rookie championship with three class wins, while Matt Sharpe took the other, taking part in his first ever race weekend.

Team Respro MRO 600s

James Puttrell was Bemsee's first champion of 2014, the 2013 Rookie 600 champion claiming the 2014 MRO 600 Clubman championship.

Puttrell finished third in the final race of the weekend, his best finish of the meeting. He added it to his sixth place finish in race one and brace of fourths on Saturday. He took three Clubman wins, the other going to Joe Goggins.

In the main class, Tommy Philp wrapped up the championship, extending his series lead to 106 points with just 100 left to play for.

Philp took a brace of second placed finishes on Saturday, with John Lea taking both wins. Tommy Mountain and Phil Seton took a third place apiece.

On Sunday Lea and Philp took a race win each, with Seton third in race one and Puttrell third in race two.

Stephen Draper also secured the 2014 Rookie 600 championship taking all four class wins.

Freshdrop BMZRC 250

The 2014 Freshdrop BMZRC championship will go down to the final round, with both of the main protagonists suffering a DNF, or DNS in Mark Taylor's case, who missed the opening race.

Peter Woodall took the win from Reece Baldwin and Graham Garriques, before bettering Chris Rogers and Taylor in race two.

Taylor won Sunday's opener from Woodall with Baldwin third, but Woodall's DNF in the final race handed victory to Taylor, with Rogers and Baldwin on the podium.

BMCRC Thunderbike UK and Thunderbike Extreme

Adam Nelson will head to the final round of the BMCRC Thunderbike UK with the series lead, with Steve Palmer seven points adrift in second.

Palmer took the class win in race one from Nelson, before Nelson took the remaining three class wins. Palmer was second on two occasions, but was bettered by Harry Truelove in the final race.

In the Extreme class Ben Gallaway has one hand on the championship, aided by Jason Byard's DNF in the final race.

However, it was Seb Kelly, competing in the class for the first time this season, who took both of Saturday's available wins, with Byard second and Gallaway third.

In Sunday's opener Gallaway led Byard, with Denzil Davies third. However, Byard all-but surrendered his title challenge in race four, dropping out of the race on lap three. Gallaway took the win from Daniel Lawlor and Dave Shelvey.

ACU National Junior Cup & Senior 300s

Ryan Folkes extended his series lead by 10 points over Joel Marklund in the ACU National Junior Cup at Snetterton, taking three wins from the four races.

Marklund took the win by a tenth in race one with Folkes second and Harry Rowlings third, before Folkes showed why he won the club's Tip for the Top award with three dominant wins over the rest of the weekend, winning by over six seconds each time.

Marklund was second on each occasion, with Rowlings third.

Carl Mitchell took all four Senior 300 wins.

Morello Services MRO Powerbikes

Barry Chapman unfortunately looks set to miss out on this year's Morello Services MRO Powerbike championship, after he suffered a huge crash at turn one in the opening race of the weekend. He was airlifted to hospital, but latest reports suggest that he is on the road to recovery.

With the championship leader absent from proceedings, that left Peter Baker to take all four wins. Roger Marsh and Michael Honey were second and third in race one and the top two Clubman riders, before Steve Smith and Mark Lister completed the podium in race two. Marsh was again lead Clubman, finishing fourth.

On Sunday Lister finished second with Smith third in race one, before the positions were reversed for race two. Marsh took another pair of Clubman wins, meaning his battle with Michael Honey will go to the final round, with Marsh boasting a 17 point advantage.

Powerbike champion-elect, Steve Murphy, took a best finish of eighth, as he returned from the injuries he sustained at Brands Hatch.

Scott Hilliard and Mark Sykes took two wins each in the Rookie 1000s.

MRO Minitwins

Richard Goode took three wins in the MRO Minitwin series, winning both races on Saturday from a guesting Ali Black and Paul Wilby, who arrived at Snetterton looking to overhaul Grant Robertson's series lead.

He took 10 points out of Robertson's 19 point advantage on Saturday, but a DNF in Sunday's opener and Robertson's third increased it again to 25 points. Goode took the win from Harry Truelove.

However, Matt Truelove's win in the final race means it will all be decided at the final round between Truelove, Robertson and Wilby. Harry Truelove and Richard Goode rounded out the podium.

RKB -F1 / BMCRC F2 Sidecars

Matt MacLaurin and Adrian Hope put one hand on the 2014 RKB-F1 Sidecar championship at Snetterton, taking three wins and second from the four races.

Pete Founds and Andy Taylor were second in race one before taking victory in race two. Kev Cable and Guy Pawsey and Martin Kirk and Paul McArdle took a third place finish each on Saturday.

Wayne Lockey and Mark Sayers and Scott Parnell and Dean Kilkenny took an F2 class win apiece, before Lockey and Sayers took both F2 wins on the Sunday.

In the F1 class MacLaurin and Hope did the double, with Kirk and McArdle second in both. Bleackley and Hughes and Founds and Taylor took a third each.
