2014 Weston Beach Race attracts the best of British sand riders

The 2014 Weston Beach Race is set to be one of the most exciting races in its 32 year history, 1500 plus riders over the weekend will line up on the start straight on October 18/19 to commence battle in one of the toughest extreme races in the world.

This year will see a host of top British riders in action including the 2014 British MX1 champion and one of the best sand riders in the world, Shaun Simpson who is currently 5th place in the world motocross championship and member of this years British MXoN team.

“I’m really pleased to be riding at Weston for what will be my third time there. I’m hoping that the weather will play ball and we can put on a great show for the crowd that’s always big at Weston. I’m pushing hard this year as I have finished runner up twice before, so looking to go one better and win this year.”

As well as British champion Simpson, two of the hottest young prospects in world motocross will also be aiming for a Weston Beach Race victory, brothers Nathan Watson of Dantec Husqvarna and Ben Watson of Hitachi Construction KTM will certainly be two riders who will be chasing and racing near the front of the pack on October 18/19 in North Somerset.

Nathan Watson: “I’m really excited for Weston as it’s just so different to what we are used to racing throughout the year. The start is so fun, when everybody is waiting to burst through the gates, then running to your bike! It’s a good laugh, but also high adrenaline. And also the race is just such a challenge, as the conditions are always horrendous which makes it tough… But good fun. However, there is a downside, you have to prepare 6 sets of goggles instead of 1! … I don’t like that part.”

Ben Watson:  “Weston beach race is always one I look forward to and especially this year!

Last year I had to miss it through my shoulder injury and I was gutted! It’s a totally different race to anything we are used to and I think that is the reason we all find it so fun and look forward to it so much. I take it as a fun race but at the same time I would love to win it. I enjoy riding in the sand and getting 3 hours in it is always a challenge on the mind as well as the body.”

Gareth Hockey of RHL Activities: “It’s great to have so much British talent available and coming to ride with us on the beach. We do still have our hopes held out for Jeffrey Herlings but we will see what happens with his injury. Looking forward to the next few weeks where we have lots of exciting news to come, we recently had our launch on Weston Beach with a few local businesses and riders which attracted quite a crowd as it was packed with holidaymakers and locals.”

Over the coming weeks we will be releasing more top names who will competing in this years event, keep an eye on the RHL website for the latest news about the 2014 Weston Beach Race.
