Maxxis British Championship Heads to Cusses Gorse on August 10th

The penultimate round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship heads to the spectacular Cusses Gorse venue near Winterbourne Gunner in the Salisbury area on the 10th August.

Cusses Gorse features a fast flowing layout which uses its natural change in elevation to create an exciting race circuit with a number of large jumps designed entertain both riders and spectators alike. In recent weeks Justin Barclay and his team of track staff have been busy making minor changes to the layout to allow the racing to flow and have also been busy improving the racing surface.

The seventh round of the Championship will see both Matiss Karro and Mel Pocock fight for the top spot of the MX2 class whilst in the MX1 class Shaun Simpson will be hoping to secure his second British Championship title at Cusses Gorse. The event also includes the MXY2 class which features the future stars of British Motocross.

With two rounds of the 2014 season remaining, Hitachi Construction Machinery KTM UK rider Shaun Simpson will be looking to secure his second British Championship today. The KTM rider currently leads the championship by a massive 118 points over reigning champion Kristian Whatley on the MBO Sport ASA Scaffolding Yamaha after Jake Nicholls was ruled out for the rest season following his broken finger at Whitby.

With Nicholls again missing from the action, former double British Champion Brad Anderson will be keen to overhaul the seven point’s gap and secure third in the standings. Although Graeme Irwin on the Heads and All Threads Suzuki in fifth and Apico LPE Kawasaki’s Gert Krestinov will be looking to close down the gap on Anderson and lay claim on third place in the Championship as well.

Nathan Watson on the Dantec Husqvarna currently sits seventh in the Championship and will be looking to repeat his podium performance from the last round. Just outside the top 10 is reigning MX2 champion Elliott Banks-Browne who has suffered dreadful season so far due to injuries and will be looking for two strong results at the final rounds on his Buildbase Honda.

In the MX2 class the battle for the championship lead is much closer between Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Matiss Karro and the Hitachi Construction Machinery KTM UK rider Mel Pocock. Karro secured a 23 point lead in the championship at the previous round but the pair will both have to contend with wildcard rider Max Anstie on the Bike It Cosworth Yamaha.

Neville Bradshaw on the Putoline Apico Honda will be battling for third place in the Championship with Adam Sterry on the second of the Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s who will be looking to repeat his podium performance.

Bryan MacKenzie on the Pendrich Heights Services Kawasaki currently sits fifth with young Ben Watson just six points behind while Frenchman Steven Lenior will be keen to produce two solid results at the final two rounds and claim his first overall victory in the British Championship.

Both Michael Eccles who produced some impressive results at the previous rounds and Steven Clarke will be looking to reproduce his European form at Cusses Gorse.

Cusses Gorse also marks the penultimate round of the MXY2 Championship and current point’s leader Josh Gilbert will be looking to extend his three point lead over Oliver Osmaston in second, while overall victor of the last round Liam Knight will be hoping to close down the twenty seven point gap to Gilbert.

The Cusses Gorse circuit provides all round viewing in a fairly compact area and is easily reached from the A303 at the Countess Roundabout at Amesbury using the postcode SP4 6JW. Practice starts at 9:30am with the first MX2 Championship going off the line at 12:30pm.
