Exciting End to TT Festival on the Cards at Billown

First run in 1991, the Post TT Races have become the finale of the annual TT festival reminding racing fans and enthusiasts of the excitement of massed start road racing after the unique TT Races.

The years 2008, 2009 and 2010 the races held on the Billown course were designated as TT Races in the final years of the 250cc and 125cc classes before their final demise into the history books.

Over the past 22-years the list of riders taking victories on the 4.25-mile pure road course reads like a TT ‘Who’s Who’ as many delayed their departure from Mona’s Isle to compete on the Billown course, home to the Southern 100 International Road Races every July.

Ian Lougher heads the listing with a total of 12 wins, followed by the legendary Joey Dunlop on 11, with Jason Griffiths and the recently retired Chris Palmer sharing 10 apiece.

The 2014 Post TT Races once again has Metzeler as its title sponsor and sees the return of the Superbike class after a four-year sabbatical, which will race over an eight-lap distance, as will the opening Supersport race.

Sandwiched in between these two classes will be a six lap event for 650cc SuperTwins and 250cc two-strokes.

Two of last year’s winners return, William Dunlop aims to be out in all three races, riding the Tyco machines in the ‘big bike’ classes and brother Michael’s 250cc Honda in the other.

Dean Harrison will be on the RC Express Kawasaki in the Superbike and the Mar train Yamaha in the Supersport race.

Neither will have an easy time with the ‘young-pretenders’ James Cowton, Ivan Lintin, Jamie Hamilton aiming to steal their thunder.

Add in the ‘out-of-retirement’ Ryan Farquhar and his fellow Dad’s Army colleagues Davy Morgan, Paul Cranston and Mark Parrett and some close exciting racing can be assured, which won’t be for the feint-hearted!

Roads close between 1.00pm and 4.00pm for Practice and Qualifying and again between 5.00pm and 8.30pm for the programme of three races.

Should the Senior TT be postponed until Saturday 7th June, the Metzeler Post TT Road Races will take place on Sunday 8th June between 1.30pm and 6.00pm.
