Wainfleet & District start the season with the Robert Chatterton Trophy on May 4th

Wainfleet and District Sporting Motorcycle Track Racing club has its first meeting of the year the Robert Chatterton Trophy at the popular Irby- In- The- Marsh grass circuit on Sunday 4th May 2014.

Club Chairman Reg Blackbourn said this event is the first of the two club meetings we hold at this venue the second being the David Nix Memorial on 1st June. It is one of the first meetings of the year in this Centre and riders are keen to blow away the cobwebs and try out new machines. At the minute things are looking good with the track in perfect condition and a good forecast for the weekend.  In past years this event as produced some of the best club racing you will get anywhere and we are hoping this year will be the same with all the new young talent. We have top class adult riders from as far as Kent and Newcastle; we are in for a real treat. The adult classes include 500cc, 350cc & 250cc Solos plus the awesome 1000cc sidecars the fastest off road sidecars in the world.

In the Solo 500cc Class riders include local club riders Michael Faulkner from Spilsby, veteran Ray Woulds of Skegness, Ben-Fen-Smith and his brother Jamie from Sleaford and last year’s club champion Daniel Winterton from Cheshire and Dean Garrod Ex-Boston Speedway Rider from Diss Norfolk.  The 250cc see Ex- British Champion David Knowles from York, another   Ex Boston Speedway Rider Ricky Scarboro of Wragby Nr Lincoln.  Other riders include

Andy Mellish from Manchester, John Smart from Newark, Steven Taylor from Cheshire and young guns 125cc World Champion Zack Wajtknecht plus Jed Collins from Northants.

In the Big Guns, the 1000cc Sidecars, there are 12 top teams, two of which are former British Masters Champions in which it would be hard to pick a winner. Former British Masters and last year third in the International Poacher is the clubs own Colin Blackbourn from Friskney Nr Boston, son of chairman Reg, he is a big favourite on his home track with Passenger

Carl Pugh. They will be up against formidable opposition from the other former Masters champions Paul Whitelam from Nottingham, Myles Simmons and Kevin Woodley from Kent, also Peter Lloyd and passenger Daz Whetstone from Warwickshire,plus third last week Gareth Winterburn.                                                        

The meeting will also support a small group of youth riders from 6 year to 16 years of age.  Over the last 20 years we have included Youth in our Club events of which Robert Chatterton was a big supporter, and many have become top riders in the adult classes of today.

Racing on Sunday 4th May 2014 starts at 1.30pm with practice at 12 noon. With Full Race Programme Finish Racing approx 5pm with the presentation of trophies.
