The MX Nationals Change to MX1 and MX2 Format

Monday April 28, 2014 at 9:36am

We said from day one that we would listen to the riders, teams and spectators to evolve the MX Nationals Championship into a major UK Motocross Championship for many years to come. So after much consultation with riders and team managers, and feedback from spectators, we have decided to separate the MX1 and MX2 Pro races and intend to do this immediately starting from Round 3 at Whitby.

It was clear from the feedback that we received at the first two rounds that the MX2 guys don’t enjoy racing with 450’s. The MX Nationals Championship originated to encourage rider progression and improvement. We want riders to start with us as youth riders, learn their craft and improve their riding skills, so they have the best chance to become professional riders.

It is a big jump for a rider leaving the MXY2 Championship to join the mixed race of the Top 40 and the level currently in the MX Nationals is very high. We don’t want to see young riders discouraged or even worse, hurt racing, so we have decided to make this change to help further riders’ progression.

We hope that for spectators, the extra Pro Race, will prove more of a draw and be easier to watch and follow. I am sure the racing will be just as good, if not better, at future rounds.

The timetable will be very much as it was, with practice and qualifying now being Pro MX2 first, followed by Pro MX1, the Pro Support Race will be replaced by the Pro MX2 race. Prize money for each of these classes will be paid to 12th place, with £300 for a race win, £200 for second and £150 for third.

We hope this demonstrates once again that our aim is to build a great series for UK Motocross and we are keen to listen and improve at all times.

Riders: if you haven’t already done so, do get your entry in for the 3rd Round at Skelder Bank, Whitby on the 3rd/4th May.  Entries are open to Wildcard riders.

We look forward to a positive response to the revised format, from riders, team managers, sponsors and spectators.
