The question on Sunday at the third round of the ACU Luscombe Saab Leeds is whether any sidecar crews can prevent former Bristol sidecar trials champions Jon Tuck and Matt Sparkes from repeating their double victory in Devon and Cornwall last month? With sponsor and sixteen times British Champions Robin and Sam Luscombe semi-retired the door is wide open for Tuck and Sparkes but Rupert and Chris Kimber may think on different lines.
Driver Rupert broke his arm in the West of England trial but has entered. The big surprise in March was the form of road race cum sidecar driver Kieran Hankin and Andy Cripps. Rochester’s Robbi Head and Aaron Jacobs took the twenty points in March from David Tuck and Steven Chandler while Karl Jarvis and Bob Chapman introduced Jota Gas to sidecar trials. Skipton brothers Chris and Robert Pickard hit the headlines when they won the Clubman class at the Colin Dommett,. Simon Evans and Nick top scored in March over Paul Fishlock and Debbie Merril who hung onto the big Ariel to grab thirty two points.
Heavy plant driver Thomas McDowel leaves his JCB at home and rides a Sherco in the Newcomer class with passenger Jon Stanley. Thomas is the guy who moves the rocks in Bracken Rocks.
The Master of Ceremonies is experienced ‘Chair’ man Terry Crabtree who has a compact twelve mile course centred on the village of Winster. The two lap course consists of a first lap of twenty sections then a second lap of twenty different sections. The sidecar entry is twenty two sidecars and eighteen solos. The first rider starts at 10.01 (solos) and 10.31 (sidecars)
