With only 50 or so days before the gate drops at this year’s British Youth Nationals at Fat Cat Moto Parc on April 12, some of Irelands finest youth motocross talent will be setting off for their journey across the Irish sea to pursue their dream of becoming a British champion.
Over the years Ireland has produced some of the fastest riders in the UK, including Gordon Crockard, Martin Barr, Stuart Edmonds and Graeme Irwin.
This years the BYN will see no fewer than 24 Irish riders racing the championship quite possibly the biggest EVER contingent from the Emerald Isle.
The Galvin Brothers are two young riders wanting that British championship crown, both Jack and David won the Irish championship last year (David on the big wheels and Jack on the 65’s) and now both have moved up a class(Jack 85 SW and David 250F) and are now both riding for Team
VMXMoto.com on KTM machinery.
In the 65’s their youngest brother Sam Galvin should be the best of the Irish, with some good results towards the end of last year, he can’t wait for the season to get started.
Ryan Mawhinney who races in the SW85 class, rode wildcard with the BYN last year, “ I see the BYN as an opportunity to race against some of the best riders in Europe which will bring me on and fully developed my future potential to be a champion!”
Cameron Turley is 13 and it’s his first year on the bw 85, he rides a KTM and won the Ulster championship on the SW85 last year, “I’m really looking forward to the experience of riding in the BYN because this year’s tracks are mint and the riders are really fast.”
Aidan McDonough won the small wheel Irish championship and came 6
th in the 2013 BYN, he’s outgrown the 85 and is going straight to the 125cc class for 2014.
Jack Daly is a new entry to the series in the big wheels and will go very well and should surprise a few people with results.
David Robson races the BW85, “I competed in the British Championships last year finishing 7th in the small wheels, we found the event well organised and value for money. The event organisers were helpful and friendly and it was an excellent opportunity to meet new people and compete at a high level. I am competing in the big wheels this year and am looking forward to another great years racing.”
Jordan Keogh will compete in the British Under 23’s and is the 2013 MCI MX2 Champion, MCI Under 21 Champion, 3rd MX2 Irish Championship, 4th MX2 Ulster Championship and 3rd GR7 2 Stroke Championship, ”I’m really looking forward to supporting the new Under 21 Class in the BYN.”
Gareth Hockey of RHL Activities had this to say about all the riders making the effort to race the best youth championship in the UK ”we are overwhelmed by the support from the Irish riders this year, not only have the great bunch of riders joined us from last year but we also have a lot of new faces too. We are so grateful for this support and we are already starting to look at Irish tracks for next year. This will then be a truly ‘British’ Series”
