Tom Sagar is the 2013 British Enduro Champion!
Tom Sagar (Colwyn Bay KTM 45EXC) has won the 2013 ACU British Enduro Championship. With just a handful of points separating him from rival Jamie McCanney (Midwest Husqvarna TE250) it was a tense final round at the Muntjac Enduro in the Thetford Forest. McCanney ran away with the round victory, chased all the way by his brother Danny McCanney (Fowlers KTM 250EXC), but Sagar was able to securely defend the third place position to add the 2013 BEC outright title to those he won in 2007 and 2008.

Sagar was almost overcome with the emotion at the finish: “That was some day. The first run at the test I thought I’d ridden really well but when I saw the times I was seventh! After that I knew I’d have to ride right on the limit for the remaining five. The last lap on the course is always timed tight and so I was very apprehensive about that too, one mistake and I could have lost a minute – and the championship. But once I passed the secret check at half distance I knew I was good on time and nothing short of a breakdown would stop me. It’s fantastic to have won this third title, it’s been an amazing year adding this to the European E2 championship. I’m grateful to my sponsors, to KTM UK, to the excellent Colwyn Bay Motorcycles Dunlop, Rock Oil, Dr Shox, Moose Racing, CI Sport, Barnett Engineering, Zero-Nine, Acerbis, Samco, DP Brakes and Hollis Wheels and all my sponsors and supporters.”

The Muntjac Enduro also saw the remaining BEC class champions crowned. Jonny Walker (Red Bull KTM 300EXC) took the E3 championship, Brad Freeman the Experts title, Katie Walker the Women's, Derek Little the Veterans.

Dusty Martin, ACU: “The Diss MCC never disappoint and they put on a brilliant final round and despite recent rains the course was in perfect condition. The arrangement with the special test was very clever with the championship riding the last three tests back-to-back before setting out on the last two tight laps. That really tested the nerve and the stamina of the riders. Congratulations to Tom Sagar on winning the championship. It was well deserved. Jamie McCanney was gracious in defeat and stunning out on the course. The championship certainly showcases some amazing talent, the top three on the day between them holding two World and a European championship. Together with an ISDE podium for the Junior team, British enduro has never looked so strong! Thank you to all the clubs who have participated in making the 2013 season such a good one.”
