Pensioners aid the Yorkshire Air Ambulance funds
Eight Ilkley Motor Club members maintained their car parking duties at the Nidderdale Agricultural Show at Pateley Bridge where they marshaled the three spectator car parks.  Stan Peel, Guy Wood, Gordon Hewitt. Dave Lambourne, all Ilkley residents, with Guiseley’s John Busfield and William Barker, Menston’s Malcolm Rainforth and Rufforth’s Colin Valentine – average age 73 years operated voluntarily as they have done for several years.

Retired car sales executive Guy Wood made appeal signs for each car park area and collections were by way of buckets. As in recent years the proceeds, some £900 this year, go to the Yorkshire Ambulance Charity.

In 2012 the amount exceeded £700. All the team are long standing members of the Ilkley Motor Club and all are former, or currently, motor sport organizers and competitors in several top ranked disciplines. Mr Peel comments “We support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, especially as some of us are Dalesmen with a farming heritage. The air ambulance is vital service for remote farms and villages and the day to day incidents on the Dale roads and footpaths”

Not only did the Ilkley ‘boys’ weigh in with cash because Ilkley Motor Club colleague Sam Jackson who owns and runs her Teacup Café in Pateley Bridge Auction Mart also has a permanent collection point in her tea rooms. The café is a real bikers stop with it’s large parking area.
