THE “ANGLESEY GRAND” MEETING – 12th & 13th October
The Wirral Hundred’s season ends with its traditional ‘Anglesey Grand’ meeting over the weekend of 12th & 13th October. Again sponsored by ifm-moto,com, the Grand, celebrating its 20th anniversary,  will be run over two 12-lap legs of the seldom-used 2.1 mile International circuit, with £2,000 of prize money on offer. Past winners have included Howie Mainwaring, Marty Nutt and Alastair Seeley, whilst in recent years the pace has been set by the likes of circuit regulars Angelo Derosa, Kiaran Hankin, Ian Mackman and John Robb on Powerbikes, with Mark Cronshaw, Jamie Devine, Jamie Harris, Sam Hornsey, and David Jones on 600’s never far behind and all dicing for podium places.

The meeting also includes the final rounds of the club championships, and every rider is guaranteed at least four 12.6-mile races, and six if they enter any of the Open classes. The meeting as usual caters for all solo classes from 125cc to 1000cc, together with 650 Twins, pre-injection, steel-framed 600’s, CB500’s, forgotten era, golden era superbikes, classics and F1 and F2 sidecars. In the past this meeting has attracted many Irish and Manx riders and with no date clashes there are hopes for a very welcome influx of visitors again this year.

A special feature of the meeting is the David Swallow Memorial Race for classic bikes. David was one of the most popular riders in classic bike racing, until he died from the effects of carbon-monoxide poisoning when camping overnight at the East Fortune circuit back in the summer of 2010. Ken Platt, his engine builder and sponsor, in conjunction with David’s father Bill, has provided the club with a magnificent ‘David Swallow Memorial Trophy’ to be awarded annually to the most praiseworthy performance by a rider racing a single-cylinder classic bike; additionally he has provided the club with £250 of prize money to perpetuate David’s memory, to remind the paddock community of the dangers of carbon-monoxide poisoning, and to support the future of racing single-cylinder classic bikes.

Entry forms are available from race secretary Margaret Dewsnap  (01244 813127) or  via the club’s website www.wirral100.co.uk
