Sidecars Head East Again

On July 21st teams competing in the SMCA British Clubman Sidecar Championship are heading east to Lyng for round three of the series. Norwich Viking Motor Cycle Club are hosting the meeting at Cadders Hill, Lyng which also includes a round of the Taffmeister Sidecar series, NGR Solo Championship and Allcomers solo races.

The Clubman’s Championship has produced some exciting racing over the past few seasons and this is no exception. With only three points between the top two in the championship, and others not that far behind, there is all to ride for. Nick Bowers and Pete Batt are leading the championship with Steve and Chris Pannell in second and only twenty nine points from second to tenth. Jonathon Pannell, Steve and Chris’ brother is in third going into this round and that’s without a regular passenger! He is only twenty five points adrift of the leaders with only seven points separating him from Arthur Walton with the first of the female passengers, Faye Barnes, in fourth. Jo Reynolds is the other female passenger riding with Scott Balsille this year; they are currently lying in fourteenth but hoping to move up after a few problems at the last round.

Only fourteen points splits the next six riders with Wayne Delves and his passenger Darren Elcocks in fifth hoping to climb up the table whilst keeping the others following. The experienced team of Roger Blackman and Eric Maguire are knocking on the door just four points behind. In tenth position Shane and Paul Horton, a mere further ten points behind, will be eager to repeat the excellent points scored in the last round with a third and fourth. At the same time they will want to ditch the gremlins and ensure they finish all three races!

The Taffmeister Sidecar Series has been introduced by David Lloyd and is for those local riders from East Anglia. Therefore to score points riders must live in the area defined and is aimed at encouraging more riders to take up sidecar racing.

The meeting kicks off with practice at 09.45 and all the action can be seen for just £7 for adults and £2 for under 15s.

The track at Cadders Hill can be found at Lyng, NR9 5QZ. It is situated about 4 miles off the A47 Norwich to Kings Lynn road or alternatively 1 mile off the A1067 Norwich to Fakenham road.
