EVO Motocross heads to Culham this weekend

This 2013 season has seen a huge number of superlatives for EVO Motocross. Extravaganza, Festival, Spectacular, the list goes on!

Culham Moto Park in rural Oxfordshire boasts the understated title of “The Great British Scramble” this coming weekend of 27th and 28th of July.

Promoter Neil Irwin has been hard at work making sure the preparation not only involves the spectacular Thames side track but the areas adjacent to the River Thames for pits and camping to enhance the full “Great British Scramble” weekend.

Round six of the Dave Thorpe Evo series is the proud recipient of Culham Moto Park’s hospitality and entries have filled up fast, although with the main events supplemented by a twin shock and a Super Evo class, Neil will continue to take entries from non-registered riders and both support classes on 07968 776891.

The ACU licenced event, of course with electronic timing, on the former Grand Prix and British Championship track is shaping up to offer some extremely close racing with the DTEvo at the three quarter stage.

One man in particular looking forward to the weekend is Welshman, Glen Phillips, the current 500cc champion. Glen is leading the flagship class and is hoping for a good points haul from a track he thought was immaculately prepared last year and is certainly one of his favourites. He leads the class from Wayne Butt and local man Phil Mercer, who is on the comeback trail after seven weeks out. All going well with machinery Phil will be doing his utmost to get on the podium.

All the DT classes are proving close at the top, the over 50’s in particular with Keith Hanson leading Lancashire’s Alan Eaves, just in front of Martin Maisey. Jon Rutherford heads the clubman class with Curtis Ratcliffe and Rob Whiting trailing him.

Ben Haggerty-Marks leads holeshot man Neil Carroll and Dean Warren in the 125’s, Jack Gribble, Luke Dean and Richard Chinn complete the top three in 250’s, Rob Mott leads the four strokes.

As stated earlier “The Great British Scramble” is hoping to bring back memories and being prepared to be family friendly, once again emphasising putting the fun back into motocross.

The circuit can be found on the A415 between Abingdon and Clifton Hampden, entrance through the Industrial Estate 1, with the nearest postcode being OX14 3DA, follow the signposts. Further info from www.culhampark.com

With such a classic venue giving evocative memories of a quintessential balmy summers day on the banks of the Thames , all that needs to be said is “Pass the Pimms please”
