Danny McCanney and Matti Seistola share Elite honours at rounds four & five of the Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship at Llangrove …

Hot and dry conditions were again the order of the weekend for those competing in the Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship, with rounds four and five seeing the series pass the halfway point at Llangrove, near Monmouth. Described by some as the toughest rounds of the BSEC ever held, the combination of hot weather and a dry and challenging track ensured riders in all classes were made to work extremely hard during what was a action packed two days of racing.

Elite

Winning the first and last of the eight laps completed by the Elite class riders at round four Danny McCanney (Gas Gas) went on to claim victory ahead of Matti Seistola (Husqvarna) and brother Jamie. Making the most of a slow start by Seistola, Danny maintained his lead during the closing laps, despite a spirited effort from Seistola to claim the win. With 13 seconds separating the leading duo, Jamie McCanney (Husaberg), who topped laps two and three, finished some eight seconds adrift of Seistola. With the top three some distance clear of all other Elite class riders Jamie Lewis (HM Moto Honda) placed fourth ahead of Tom Sagar (KTM), Mark Roberts (KTM) and Tom Church (Husaberg)

At round five it was Seistola who made the best start of the Elite class riders. Edging ahead after two laps, on lap three the Finn cartwheeled his bike down a rocky stream and lost time re-starting it. Fighting his way back to the top of the class he eventually claimed the win by some 14 seconds from Danny McCanney. McCanney’s day started in the worst possible way as two falls and a bent gear selector saw him lose close to one-minute on the very first lap. Forced, just like Seistola, to fight back, he claimed a well-deserved runner-up result, just seven seconds ahead of third placed Jamie Lewis. Fourth went to Jamie McCanney with Tom Sagar and Tom Church rounding out the top six.

Under 23

Steve Holcombe (KTM) dominated in the Under 23 class, winning both days by considerable margins. Never outside the top six overall throughout round four, Holcombe placed two minutes clear of eventual runner-up Jack Rowland (Husqvarna), who suffered his first loss of the series. James Dent rounded out the top three on day one, close to two minutes behind Rowland.

Round five saw Holcombe’s pace increase. Fast out of the blocks he set the fastest outright time on lap one, backing it up with a second fastest outright time on lap two. Come the end of the day Steve placed more than three minutes ahead of runner-up James Dent, with an end-of-day final time good enough for fifth in the Elite class. Third went to Max Varney (Yamaha)

Under 19

Rob Johnson (Husqvarna) delivered two solid rides to claim the Under 19 class win at both rounds four and five. Looking strong on the dry course Johnson finished comfortably ahead of 125cc mounted Josh Gotts (TM) and Joe Wootton on day one, and then ahead of Gotts and Charlie Frost (KTM) on day two.

125cc Youth Cup

In securing his fourth and fifth 125cc Youth Cup class wins Brad Freeman put himself in a position to secure his class championship at the sixth round of the series. Close to not putting a foot wrong during the two days of competition, Brad improved his pace throughout round four to finish three-and-a-half minutes up on Lee Sealey (Husaberg) with Jack Staines (KTM) third. At round five all of Brad’s times were again inside the overall top 10, going on to claim the 125cc Youth Cup win ahead of Sealey and Drew Slevin (Yamaha)

Expert

After a day-long battle with Richard Ely (KTM) it was Carl Brogden (TM) who topped the Expert class at round four. Seperated by just 11 seconds the pair comfortably finished ahead of third placed Brad King (Kawasaki). Round five saw Ely get the upper hand, moving ahead of Brogden by 12 seconds. Third at round five went to Brad King.

In the Expert Vets class Andrew Reeves (KTM) and Carl Tiley (TM) enjoyed a weekend long battle. Reeves topped round four, but Tiley fought back to claim the win at round five. Third on both occasions was Neil Bowker.

Clubman

Mark Denslow (KTM) was the rider to beat in the Clubman class on day one, placing ahead of Nick Sims (Sherco) and Jesse Say (KTM). At round five sprint enduro newcomer Jonathan Rowlands (Beta) claimed a commanding win ahead of Jesse Say and Nick Sims.

Tim Cotton (Husaberg), Keith Jones (KTM), and Dai Beer (KTM) placed top three in the Clubman Vets class at both rounds four and five.

Women

Jane Daniels (Husaberg) topped the Women’s class on both days, finishing in front of Katie Walker (KTM) and Rhian George (Husaberg) at round five and ahead of Walker and Hannah Styles (Husaberg) at round five.

Round six of the 2013 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship takes place at Westwood, near Sheffield, on August 4th.
