The 'Low Row' Trial

This may be the first time the Richmond Motor Club have hosted a round of the British Trials Championships but it surely won't be the last.

The venue at Low Row was simply superb, it looked like a Championship venue and was good for riders and spectators alike.

Much pre trial speculation had been about whether Michael Brown would be fit to ride following his recent knee problem and it was good to see him there and riding competitively.

Overnight rain made the rocky gullies pretty slippery early on but the riders scores generally improved through the day.

Brownee and Dabill stood at a win and a second place each going into this event and on the day the current British Champion had things under control with three circuits of near perfection. His only loss above a one was at section five on his first lap, it was a hazard that took plenty of marks from most of the 26 strong entry. Alexz Wigg was back on form this round and grabbed the final podium slot. After a slow start he rode excellent second and third circuits.

There were a few changes to the general order of things with current S3 champion Richard Sadler getting his best ever BTC result with a fine fourth place just ahead of the ever consistent Sam Connor. Mention also to Andy Chilton who has also improved all season and his cross up coming out of section 12 on lap 1 was an indication of a rider looking confident.

In the Expert group Darren Brice got back to his winning ways with James Carr giving the Ossa second in front of Midlander Buster Regan. Cumbrian Brice looked well at home on the Yorkshire rockery as his main rival Jack Stones finished in 5th place on the day. This now leaves  an eleven point gap with just one event remaining in September.

5 youth riders rode the same course as the Experts and it saw Welshman Iwan Roberts take a narrow victory from James Stones.
