HOTTRAX HEADS TO SNETTERTON THIS WEEKEND

Thursday June 27, 2013 at 12:19pm

Just ten points cover the top three teams in the ACU/sorrymate.com National 1000 Endurance championship going into the fourth round of the series at Snetterton, Norfolk on Saturday, June 29.

This one-day meeting is the fourth of the eight-round 2013 Hottrax Motorsports series.

Topping the points’ table is IBL Racing, made up of Hudson Kennaugh and Mark Clark, who narrowly won the third round of the series at Donington Park.

They beat Team Traction Control (Steve Mercer and Ben Neeves) by just 25 seconds at the end of the three-hour event.

Go Racing Developments (Andy Carpenter/Greg Allsop) were third home in the big bike class, but slipped from top of the points’ table to second, one point behind IBL Racing.

Team Traction Control is now third in the standings, ten points down on the leaders.

It is close in the National 600 Endurance class, too.

Team Sorrymate.com (Colin Norris/Warren Verwey) continues to head the series, but after being beaten into second place by Dales Racing (Tom Dale/Richard Steadman) at Donington they are only nine points ahead of Power Projects Racing (Richard Cunningham/Gavin Little).

Victory in the last round has helped TDM Racing stretch the lead over Thunder Chickens in the Clubman 600 class to 23 points, but they were very lucky to do so.

Brothers Michael and Terry Merritt, who together make up TDM Racing, had decided to give the Donington round a miss, because of lack of funds.

Then fellow competitor, Lee Piercey, stepped in with an offer to share the costs.

Michael had already arranged a day out with his family, so Terry partnered Lee and they ran out winners, beating Martin Gibson/Ellis Hadley.

The brothers are still short of funds, though and will have to miss the Snetterton race, but intend to be back in action in round five at Cadwell Park in July.

A second win of the season has enabled TANC 2 Racing to open up a 26 point lead in the Clubman 1000 series over Anglia Interiors/Insignia Signs.

Graham Hornby holds a slender two point lead over Andrew Haines in the Motogrande 1000 series, with Angelo Derosa third, 19 points down on the leader.

Derosa, who did not race at Donington Park still tops the Motosolo series, 34 points ahead of Kevin Sweeney. Colin Norris is third, two points further back.

Stephen Bridle had a tough meeting at Donington, scoring just seven points out of a possible 50. That cost him the lead in the Motogrande 600 class.

He is now second in the standings on 106 points, two behind new leader, Paul O’Connor. Brendan Brown is third with 91.

Greg Allsop missed the Michelin Power Cup 1000 races in round two at Anglesey and it cost him dearly.

He was leading the class going into that meeting, but slipped to fifth, trailing Tony Keilty, the new leader, by 61 points.

Allsop re-joined the fray at Donington, moving up to second after winning both races, cutting Keilty’s lead to 51.

There are still 14 races to go, so Allsop could still take the title.

Seven wins from seven rides has given William White a comfortable lead in the Michelin Power Cup 600 competition. He now has a 43 point advantage over Richard Charlton.

David Wood Jr moved to the top of the standings in the Ducati Due Class A after winning both, closely fought races at Donington Park.

He leads Andy Pike by four points, with James Gerrard third 25 points further back.

Thomas Hallifax continues to dominate the Class B having won all seven races this season. He leads his closest rival, Andy Claridge, by 85 points. Jim Brian is up to third, two points behind Claridge.

Steve Roberts tops the Modern Classic Megabike class after winning both races at Donington, but rival, Robert Eagling, from Great Yarmouth, who missed the meeting, will be back at his local track keen to overturn the 25 point deficit.

Stu Bayliss and Owen Richardson jointly top the points’ table in the Superbike class on 102. They are 33 points ahead of Craig Robertson in third spot.

Bob Barton’s unbeaten run of victories in the Supersport class came to an end at Donington, when he had a third and a fourth. He still leads the class, though, on 154 points, 41 more than Wayne Morris.

Joe Connolly has won six of his seven races in the Maxitwins class, missing out on a clean sweep after crashing at Anglesey in round two.

He has a 110 point lead over Robert Tomlinson.

Laurie Sands has not finished outside the top three in all seven Formula 400 races this year and as a consequence leads his closest rival, Keenan Armstrong by a comfortable 49 points.

The meeting replaces the two-day opening round in March which was called off because of rain and snow.

It means the organisers, Hottrax Motorsport, face a tough task to fit in qualifying sessions, plus 13 races, including the three-hour endurance race in the day.

Practice starts at 9am with racing underway around 10.40am.
