Due to record rainfall in June, the third round of the ACU British Quadcross Championships unfortunately had to be put on hold. So, riders will be raring to go at this weekend’s fourth round challenge at the superb FatCat Moto Park which will also include the Youth Quad Championship. It was a thrilling second round of the QX championships at Asham Woods back in June that saw Paul Holmes take overall victory and 17 year old Luke Cooper take an incredible race two win.
It demonstrated just how closely fought the championship has become as David Wray took the quickest lap in qualifying with Paul Holmes securing the win in race one. Behind him the battle for second and third place was being closely fought by Irish men David Wray, Justin Reid and David Cowan. It was Cowan who went on to grab second - his best ever finish in a British championship, followed by Reid, Wray and an impressive last to fifth for Carl Bunce after he was caught up in a first corner tangle.
Things got even more interesting in race two when another first corner tangle left Wray, Holmes and Cowan at the back while Reid took the holeshot and pulled away only to be forced out of the race on the fifth lap with technical problems. Reid’s team mate Dean Colhourn took the lead before also dropping out as an impressive Luke Cooper made his way into the lead and went on to take the win. Meanwhile Bunce and George Callaway were battling it out for second place - Callaway getting the better of Bunce with Holmes finishing fourth after working his way through the pack to take enough points to win the overall round.

Cooper’s win put him as overall winner in the Under 21 class, joint on points with Cowan and with Callaway taking third. With two strong races, Lindsey Duke took maximum points in the Quad Masters while Darren Bridge just pipped Anthony Barrett to second place. Joe Williams sealed his first Clubman victory ahead of Michael Campbell and Anthony Canavan.
With many young riders moving up from their 2011 classes and new riders entering the championship, there will be plenty of action across the five races planned in the Youth British Quad Championship which joins up with the adults exclusively for round four at FatCats. With many young riders already midway through their season at local MX clubs, it’s a chance to meet up with top riders from other clubs and compete at this prestigious national level.
Practice starts at 09.30am. Entry cost is £10.00 for spectators and £5 for children under 14 with under 5s free. Postcode for the track is DN3 3EH.
