ACU/FSRA BRITISH F2 SIDECAR CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO DONINGTON PARK
Round 2 of the 32nd British F2 Sidecar Championship heads to Donington Park on the 7th and 8th May. Following round one at Oulton Park a fortnight ago which saw two good closely-fought races with the title favourites well to the fore?

Before discussing the likely frontrunners for this meeting, mention should be made of the impressive colourful spectacle of each and every outfit at Oulton. A far cry from years ago when some fairings resembled battered dustbin lids. But in this day and age, with sponsors playing an important role in our ‘minority’ sport, it is increasingly important that sidecars look good. Some of the photographs of the opening lap from Oulton Park highlighted the wonderful mix of colours in fairing designs.

Pete Founds and Jevan Walmsley took a double win at Oulton with Lee Crawford/Patrick Farrance and Ian and Carl Bell each scoring a second and third. Founds didn’t win by much in either race but it was a strong performance and the 50 points give them a 14 point lead over Crawford and Bell with Steve and Mattie Ramsden fourth on 26. Dwight Beere and Ben Binns won the F2 Cup class in both races to also score 50 points, followed by Gary and Darryl Gibson second on 40 with Nick Dukes and William Moralee third with 32.

An extra incentive if one was needed this weekend is the awarding of the Bill Boddice Trophy to the winners of the second sidecar race. It is hoped that Jennie Simmonds, Bill’s granddaughter, will be here to present the trophy. Enjoy the racing!!
