Round 5 of the ACU Eastern Championship Returns to Lyng
After the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship & Round 2 of the ACU Eastern Championship held at Cadders Hill, Lyng in March & May, there has been a lengthy wait for the next meeting but preparations are almost completed for the next event at Lyng which is now only a few days away. Sunday 28th August will see the Norwich Vikings stage the fifth round of the ACU Eastern Championship

The Championship format has changed this year to encourage full line ups in every race. The Premier class will consist of expert graded riders plus the fastest junior graded riders after timed qualification.

In the Expert class it could not be closer Brad Tomlin (GH Yamaha) and Luke Parker (Herts MX Honda) from the host Norwich Viking Club are tied on 231 points at the top of the leaderboard. Something will have to give on Sunday and one of these riders has an opportunity to establish a championship lead as we approach the final 2 rounds of the series. Jason Morland (Jim Aim Racing KTM) is currently third on 179 with local rider, Declan Whittle (Danger UK KTM) a further 26 points adrift although he is likely to miss this round due to injury. Geartec UK Yamaha rider, Lewis Tombs who is a regular Maxxis Championship rider currently holds 5th spot with two maximum points rides and is sure to be a real threat to the main contenders and could put himself in contention for this years championship. Ben Cole (Herts MX Honda) holds a solid 6th place on 142 points with Brad Woodroffe (GH Husqvarna) Norwich Viking MCC & Adam Day (Sandbox KTM) are locked together in 7th position on 124 points each. All of these riders will be put under tremendous pressure with the return of reigning champion Luke Benstead (Jim Aim Racing KTM) who is 14th in the standings after having competed in only one round so far.

In the Junior category the current leader is George Turner who has a healthy lead having amassed 253 points to date. Kane Fisher from Norwich Viking MCC is 2nd in the series on 177 points, 23 points ahead of Harry Clark. Josh Keeble, Ollie Brader & Elliott Gardner hold the next three places on 143, 142 & 136 points respectively.

There is a full line-up of 160 riders and timed qualification will commence at 09:30 am and a full 12 race programme will start with the first of three Premier Class races at around midday. There’s no better way of spending your bank holiday weekend than seeing what is going to give in the battle for the ACU Eastern Motocross Championship.

Marshals are likely to be in short supply as a few of the regulars are on duty at the Ken Hall this weekend, so if anyone can help in return for being fed and watered as well as a contribution towards their expenses please contact John Nickerson on 01362 698746.
