Sykes completes historic World Superbike double in front of huge Donington crowd
Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes claimed his second Donington World Superbike win of the weekend today (Sunday), and his eighth in a row at the circuit, as he set a new record for the number of consecutive wins at a single circuit in 28 years of World Superbike history.

Sykes led away from pole position, and withstood a strong challenge from team mate and reigning champion Jonathan Rea, who briefly overtook only to lose position immediately after, allowing Sykes to take the win by over two seconds. With Chaz Davies in third on his Ducati, it was an all British podium for the huge home crowd to savour.

A number of new initiatives from Donington combined with an exciting race weekend format from organisers Dorna, saw an over 15% increase in live attendance across the weekend compared to last year. Fans enjoyed a brand new campsite on the infield with live entertainment and rider appearances, while public, media and competitors all commented that the circuit was back to its very best. In addition, the new open paddock policy meant fans were able to get much closer to their favourite riders than ever before with a packed Paddock Show schedule attracting hordes of people throughout the three days of action.

Fans basked in superb weather conditions, with fantastic action from two further World Championships, and three national motorcycle series also.

Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “We’ve been delighted by the many positive comments sent our way over the weekend, and the very strong crowd has enjoyed a superb weekend of action both on and off the track. Our many years of investment since we re-opened has finally allowed us to showcase what we really want to do, and our new initiatives are what we’ve been wanting to do since we reopened. Our congratulations of course go to Tom Sykes and the Kawasaki team for a remarkable achievement, and we now look forward to more top class action at the Park this summer.”
