Daniel Drayton Wins Sixth Round of the British Junior Supermoto Championship

The Sixth Round of the British Junior Supermoto Championship was held this weekend at Blyton Park Driving Centre. The Junior Championship is still being hotly contended with only fifty points separating the top four riders.

The conditions were very good on Saturday morning good and Daniel Drayton had set the fastest qualifying time, Stephen Campbell was unfortunate and with a puncture he was only able to put in three laps to qualify.

Daniel started on pole in race one initially being pressured by Matt Raven, but after a charge on the start straight Dylan Henderson claimed second spot from Matt and began to challenge Daniel. Dylan then found himself locked in a battle with Matt for second position but Daniel was only ever a bike length in front until a backmarker spilt the top four riders and as the flag came down Daniel took the first win followed by Dylan, Matt and Stephen though these four riders were only separated by three seconds at the end of the race.

In race two Matt challenged Daniel early in the race though Daniel closed the gap quickly and the top four riders remained as they had in race one until the penultimate lap when Dylan pressured Matt, Dylan took second spot leaving Matt fighting to regain points. Stephen Campbell took advantage at this point and setting the fastest lap he secured third place with Daniel Drayton taking first in race two and Dylan Henderson coming over the line in second spot. Matt came over the line in fourth in front of Tom Elam and Hollie Poulton.

The British weather then struck a cruel blow again with thunder lightening and torrential rain, but the Norasport Team worked tirelessly to rid the track of standing water and reconfigure the track. A little later than planned the Juniors took to a wet track and Daniel pulled away at the front while the action was taking place behind him. Stephen Campbell had put in a fantastic move on Matt Raven at one of the most difficult points of the track overtaking round the outside, two laps later he pulled the same move on Dylan Henderson and in lap five he repeated the move at the same spot to take the lead from Daniel Drayton. The gauntlet was down and as Stephen pulled away at the front Daniel responded and these two riders pulled over five seconds clear from the rest of the riders in the most difficult conditions as they battled for the lead. Stephen had a fantastic race and the spectators were treated to a thrilling final, but the victor was Daniel Drayton who took three wins on the day and set the fastest lap to lead Stephen over the line by only half a second. Dylan Henderson had to settle for third and was three seconds in front of Matt Raven who took fourth place for the second time on the day, with Tom Elam taking three fifth place finishes and Hollie Poulton once again in sixth.

A clean sweep for Daniel would extend his championship lead going into round seven at Teesside Autodrome in September
