Once again we are seeking nominations for one of the UK’s most prestigious awards - THE PINHARD TROHY which is in the gift of Sunbeam MCC

 

This award has been presented since 1950 to the best Under-21 year old* sporting motorcyclist competing under ACU or SACU jurisdiction. *See Rules

Last year’s winner was Zach Wajtknecht.  Zach became FIM Long Track Youth 250cc World Champion in Morize, France. Also, as ACU Senior Youth winner he was given a wild-card entry to be the youngest ever British 250cc champion with maximum points in his first adult year. On being told of his Pinhard success, Zach said "I’m over the moon with winning the Trophy, it’s a great way to top off a fantastic season in both youth and adult racing

Previous winners are an honours roll of motorcycling greats over the last 60 years who have excelled in all spheres of the sport including Mike Hailwood, Jeff Smith, Brian Martin, Roy Peplow, Dan Shorey, Scott Ellis, Alexz Wigg and a host of others who have gone on to be national and international household names.

 

The Trophy is a huge 3 gallon cup together with a retention replica Tankard.  Sunbeam MCC awards the trophy in memory of Frederick William Pinhard who died in 1948 whilst serving as Secretary of the Club.

 

All sections of the ACU together with the Scottish-ACU are invited to submit entries as well as anyone who feels personally eligible to make an entry. Entries can be for active competitors or administrators under-21at the beginning of November 2014*.

 

Editors of leading motorcycle periodicals are invited as judges together with General Secretary of the ACU and three officials from Sunbeam MCC.

Rules Governing the Annual Award of the Pinhard Prize.

 

 Judges shall be selected by Sunbeam MCC as follows for the annual award of the Prize.

One from the Auto Cycle Union.

Two from the Motorcycle Press

c)            Two or more appointed by the Sunbeam MCC Ltd

2)     The Pinhard Trophy Officer (hereinafter referred to as the Trustee) will be a member of the Sunbeam MCC elected annually at the Sunbeam MCC AGM. He shall be responsible to the Committee for administering the Pinhard Memorial Fund and the award of the Trophy known as the Pinhard Prize

3)    Should the administration of the Pinhard Prize for any reason fail to function, these duties shall revert to the Sunbeam MCC Committee.

4) 4a) Sunbeam MCC will be responsible for administering the Fund and awarding the Pinhard Prize annually in accordance                                         with these rules, which may be varied from time to time, if thought fit as in Rule 4b.

4b) The Sunbeam MCC committee shall delegate administration and award of the Pinhard Trophy Prize to the Trustee who shall seek the consent of The Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Secretary for any ad hoc variation to the Rules as in 4a).

The Trustee shall invite the Judges to vote for entrants in accordance with the following rules.

5)            The Pinhard Prize shall be competed for each year commencing 1st November in the previous year and ending 31st October of the subject year. It will consist of the Trophy which will be awarded to the winner for one year as in Rule 9 below and a suitable “Replica” which will become the personal property of the recipient.

 

6)            The Prize will be awarded annually to the member of a Club affiliated to the ACU or SACU who is still 21 years old or under at 1st November of the previous year, and who, in the opinion of the majority of the Judges, shall have made the most meritorious achievement in the field of motorcycle sport during the year. The Pinhard Prize shall not be awarded to the same person more than once.

Eg For year 2015, Entrants birthdate to be after 2nd Nov 1992)

7)    Entries for the Prize can be put forward by:

Club Secretaries, through their ACU Club Secretaries.

Or direct to the Trustee of the Pinhard Prize from Club Secretaries of non-territorial Clubs

c)            Or proposed direct to the Trustee by an interested party. Such interest to be declared.

 

8)    All entries to reach the Secretary of the Pinhard Prize by the closing date which will be 1St November annually.

 

9)    The Judges will consider entries and the result will be announced as soon as practicable thereafter.

The Prize will, where possible, be presented personally to the winner at a suitable motorcycle function, usually the ACU Awards dinner in January. If this is not possible an event which the winner is attending will be used.

NB

It is the intention that the scope for the Competition shall be as wide as possible.

It is not necessary for laurels to have been won only on the competitive side of the sport.

If a young member has done outstanding work for the sport in other directions equal credit will be given when making the award.

 

Proposers are asked to list competition successes on the entry form in chronological order and to indicate the nature of the ACU permit under which the event was held. Eg Restricted, Group, Open To Centre, etc.

A note of the number of competitors would also be helpful.
