Tombs and Harvey top Blaxhall 50th Celebrations
Sunday saw the Woodbridge and DMCC host their final motocross event of the 2014 season at the sandy Blaxhall circuit near Woodbridge. The celebratory event marked 50 years of motorcycle events taking place at Blaxhall and was kindly sponsored by local company Premier Clean (East Anglia) Ltd.

The event featured some exciting racing on the superbly prepared circuit in all of the four groups, which featured two Allcomers class, NGR Championship class and a special invitational Pre 70 class to mark the occasion. During the lunchtime break there was also a presentation of Past Masters include the likes of John Banks, Jim Aim and many more, with some of them taking to the track to complete a Parade Lap.

Sunshine and clear skies created the ideal conditions for racing. In the Premier Clean Ltd Allcomers A groups it was British Championship MX2 rider Lewis Tombs who dominated the proceedings by taking a hat trick of race wins ahead of local rider Luke Benstead in second overall following two second places and a fifth place. Third overall on the day went to Shaun Southgate after three consistent results ahead of Luke Parker and Steve Bixby in fourth and fifth overall.

The Premier Clean Ltd Allcomers B group saw plenty of close racing in all three of the day’s races. After the three races it was Robert Reeve and Ryan Harrington-Groves who tied on points, but thanks to his last race win it was Reeves who took the victory. Third overall went to William Nice ahead of Daniel Preece, while fifth overall was a tie between Joe Pyke and Edward Pooley.

The celebratory Pre 70 class brought back fond memories for many as a range of Greeves, CZ’s, Bultaco’s and AJS competed for one of the late Dave Bickers Trophies. After producing some stunning performances it was Matt Harvey on his CZ who took the overall with three race wins ahead of Glenn Davey on the CZ and Gene Womack on the Jawa in third overall. Fourth and fifth overall on the day went to Will Bateup and Dave Whitehead.

In the NGR Class it was Tim Clark who claimed the victory with a third and two race wins, ahead first race winner Adam Gordon in second overall. Third overall on the day went to Paul Hubbard with Aaron Hopkins in fourth and Lee Keyton in fifth place.
