BANK HOLIDAY ACTION AT DARLEY MOOR

This Bank Holiday weekend will see Round 2 of the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Championship take place on Easter Monday, 21st April 2014 at the circuit near Wyaston, Derbyshire (DE6 2ET).

Round 1 provided some surprises with several regular Darley winners switching classes and proving their speed in the new class, will Round 2 see them amongst the usual front runners in these classes again?

The Formula 600 class saw Ricky Tarren (Tamworth), runner-up in the 2013 GP125 Championship, make a successful transition to the larger machines, continuing to show his speed, recording two top 5 places against the class regulars. Will this weekend see further improvement, with more experience on this totally different machine? He will be up against plenty of local riders in this class, including early joint leaders Jamie Medhurst (Long Eaton) and Jamie Hodson (Wigan). There is extra interest in this class as the points scored in the second Formula 600 race this weekend will also count towards the Curtis Milner Trophy, the winner of the trophy will be decided at Round 4, at the end of June. In addition to the Trophy there is a prize fund of £500 to be shared between the top 3 places, all in memory of a young racer who started his racing career at Darley Moor, but unfortunately lost his life in a road traffic accident. It is hoped that Curtis’ parents, Craig and Tina, will once again be available to present the Trophy and prize money at Round 4.

Last year’s Curtis Milner Trophy winner, Tim Poole (Northwich) has now moved from the Formula 600 class onto a 1000cc machine in the Peak Cup and Open Class and has already recorded 3 wins from 3 starts, against the multiple Champion, Jim Hodson (Wigan)! Can his impressive start to the season continue?

Local interest will be found somewhere near the head of the field in the majority of classes, with entries already being received from many top 3 riders in the Championship. A small number of 2013 Champions have begun a successful defence of their titles, with Round 1 results taking them straight to the top of the standings, these include; David Bradley (Matlock) Classic 1000; Dean Ephgrave (Hucknall) Steel Framed 600; John Leese (Stoke on Trent) Classic 350 and Shane Pearson (Derby) Pre98(Up to 1300cc).

In addition to the regular Championship classes for two, three and four wheels there will be a round of the national Classic 50 Championship. This Championship will give spectators the opportunity to see and hear some of the smallest racing machines ever made and give a local Nottingham rider, Adrian Saunders the opportunity to take to the track on his more modern 50cc machine.

The action begins at 1000hrs with practice sessions for all classes, whilst the first race is anticipated to start at 1130hrs, then non-stop race action through to 1800hrs.
