MAY DAY ACTION AT DARLEY MOOR

This forthcoming Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May 2013 will see Round 3 of the Darley Moor Road Race Championship take place and those that witnessed the previous rounds over Easter will know that there is sure to be some fantastic racing. Many of the races had some excellent battles throughout the field, races were won be a number of the regular Darley Moor racers, but there was also an exciting talent unleashed, on his first ever weekend of racing!

Paul Wood, was the star of the previous weekend after managing a win, several top 3 and top 5 finishes whilst being amongst the front-runners in the Peak Cup and Open Solo races, at his first race meeting. Jim Hodson and Danny Smith have already had some superb battles for honours in these races, but can Wood upset the applecart as his confidence grows?

This weekend will also see the decider of the Curtis Milner Trophy, results from the second Formula 600 race being added to the result of the same race at the previous round. Winner of the Trophy, in memory of a young racer who started his racing career at Darley Moor, but lost his life in a terrible road accident, will receive a £250 cheque, whilst 2nd and 3rd places receive £150 and £100 respectively. Tim Poole is currently the favourite after taking wins in both races at Round 2.

A number of local riders are at the head of their respective Championships, but they have certainly had to work hard to be there, can they maintain their lead or will those that suffered from bad luck be able to bounce back and make up the points already lost?

Alex Woodhouse holds a slender 4 point advantage in the Lightweight class; Matt Zschiesche and Adam Hoare are level on points in 2nd place. In the Pre98’s Up to 500cc class Woodhouse enjoys a 5 point lead at the head of the table.

Gary Dangerfield holds a 3 point lead over Brad Vicars in the Formula Darley class, a similar situation occurs in the Mini Sound of Thunder class, but Dangerfield enjoys a 5 point lead. These two riders certainly look to be set for a season long battle.

Anthony Porter leads the Pre Injection class after winning all races so far, but there has been some very close racing.

After switching to the Pre 98 class for this season Shane Pearson finds himself at the top of the Pre 98’s Up to 1300cc class, but with just a 2 point advantage over David Large.

As usual there are races for solo machines, sidecars and karts, but this season has the addition of sounds from the past, with a number of classes for Classic machines, so certainly something for every motorsport fan.
