This weeks ‘What’s on Weekly’ features more events from around the country. Here is a selection of just a few events taking place.
Motocross
This weekend the Norfolk MXC will be holding the third round of the Eastern Centre Youth Motocross Championship on Sunday 10th July at the newly revamped Sculthorpe circuit near to Fakenham in Norfolk. The meeting will features classes from Auto all the way up to Adults and the Over 35’s class. There are still spaces available in all groups but please book-in online at www.norfolkmxc.com in addition to sending an entry form. The club has revised gate opening times due to a number of requests from people with long journeys and now the gates will be open from 16-00 to 22-00 on Saturday in addition to 06-00 on Sunday. All that is asked in return is that you keep the paddock tidy. Practice will begin at 10:00 with racing starting straight afterwards.
The Phoenix Tools Premier Motocross Championships will be making its way down to North Devon to Waggadon Farm, Nr Torrington for round 5 in the series. This venue over the years has hosted many top Championships including British Championships and more recently hosted a round of the British Sidecars. A strong line up including defending MX1 Champion John May who currently leads this year’s MX1 Championship by 52 points from Welshman Andrew Gillett who will be looking to close the gap. Other riders lining up in the MX1 class include the likes of Belgium star Maarten Cremers, Darren Shears, Sam Chapman and local star Luke Hill who will have plenty of support plus many more. In the MX2 class it is Jamie Skuse who leads the proceedings, but hoping to beat him will be the likes of young Harry Snow, Wayne Shimell, defending Champion Luke Mellows, young Dan Thornhill, Nick Wadge plus many more. In the Junior Championship it is Bill Farleigh who goes into round 5 with a 59 points advantage over Michael Rowe, but there is plenty of other talent in attendance so things could change. In the Over 35 Championship it is Martyn Tucker who leads the proceedings by 23 points, but lying in 2nd is local North Devon Rider Keith Hanson. Other riders include the likes of Mark Roberts, Rob Lewis plus Chris Brown. Waggadon Farm is an excellent viewing track with easy parking and will be signposted off the B3232 Barnstable to Torrington Road with the first race at 10am. This Wednesday evening the Diss MCC will be hosting the second round of the Gavin Hockey Sponsored Eastern Centre Evening Series. The first round of the Championship took place at Wakes Colne a month ago and was won by Kristian Whatley in an evening that featured a number of top British Championship riders. On Wednesday night Carl Nunn will be looking to make his mark on the Championship and beat the likes of Syd Bales and the rest of the Eastern Centre’s top riders. Practice will be starting at 5:30pm with the first race at 6pm.
The fifth round of the ACU BYMX Championship is set to take place at the superb Canada Heights venue in Kent. Racing will be taking place over the weekend of the 16th and 17th July. With the championship closing in on the finish line, round 5 of the 7 is sure to feature some great racing. The meeting also features the fourth round of the British Two Stroke Championship. Trials
This weekend the Waltham Chase Motorcycle Trials Club will be holding a trials event on Sunday 10th July. The event will be starting at 10:30am and is open to all centre riders. Entries can be made via the clubs website www.walthamchasetrials.co.uk or on the day of the event. The event is the St Pauls Trophy Trial and will be taking place at Hut Hill with all the profits from the event being donated to the ACU Ben Fund. The club will also be holding a tidy up day on the Saturday 9th July to have a general tidy up before the event the following day. The work party will be taking place from 10am onwards.
This weekend will see the next rounds of both the UEM Trials Championship and the Spea FIM Mens Trials Championship taking place at Montecrestese in Italy. James Dabill will be looking to improve on his current 6th overall position in the Championship, with Jack Challoner improving every week and currently sits in 8th ahead of Michael Brown in 9th place. In the Youth Class Jack Sheppard currently leads the championship and will be hoping to improve on his position further.
The Bradford and District Motor Club Ltd will be hosting the Allan Jefferies Trophy Trials on the 10th July. The event will be taking place at Halton Gill in North Yorkshire just off the B6160 and will be starting at 10am with 50% of the sections featuring an Easy route, including sections of public roads.
On Tuesday 12th July the North Berks MCC and the AJ & Matchless Owners club will be hosting the John Wheeler British Bike Night. The event will be taking place at the Horse and Harrow Pub in Hagbourne just off the A417 from 7pm onwards. An evening featuring displays of BMW rally bike, Classic cars and a demonstration of Trials during the evening. The evening of British Bikes and Vintage machines will feature awards for the Best Bikes in show and all the excitement begins at 7pm. There will be a Food Van and Hog Roast along with an outside bar. For more information about the event please visit the clubs website at www.northberksmcc.com.
Enduro
On Sunday the Woodbridge and District MCC will be holding a round of the Bowers 2 Man Enduro Championship at the Blaxhall Circuit. The course will consist of a 4 miles lap including parts of the Motocross track and the surrounding land. The event features the following classes, Championship, Expert, Clubman and Sportmans and will be starting at 10am.
The third round of the ACU Metzeler British Enduro Championship will take place at Knighton, hosted by the Central Wales Auto Club, taking place over both the Saturday and Sunday. The Start/Finish area will be signposted off the A4113 East of Knighton and will be starting at 9am on both days. Tom Sagar looks to increase his championship lead over Greg Evans in the Championship class and in the Expert class Lewis Belfield currently leads the way, while Wyn Hughes leads the championship in the Veterans class.
The Annual MiniMix 2 Day Enduro will this year take place on the 23rd and 24th July 2011 with signing on taking place on Friday 22nd July from 6.30pm at the Tynwald Inn St Johns, in the beautiful Isle of Man. All classes are 2T/4T including Experts, Clubman, Sportsman & Veteran. New for this year is the 3 man team competition based on points awarded in the rider’s class. Track Racing
On Sunday 10th July the Yorkshire Junior Grasstrack Club are hosting the third round of their Club Championship at Thorncliffe Grange Farm in West Yorkshire. The meeting will feature all Adult and Youth Solo Grasstrack and MX classes. Practice will be starting at 11am and the first race of the day taking place at 11:30. Road Racing
This weekend the National Hill Climb Association will be holding a two day event at Loton Park Hill Climb, Nr. Shrewsbury, Salop. The Saturday event will feature a round of the National Hill Climb Championship before the Sunday event, which forms part of the Vintage and Classic, Road Legal and Forgotten era Championships. The Loton Park course is 1475 yards long and has a series of left and right hand bends with a track width of between the 15ft and 20ft.
Classic Racing returns to Brands Hatch on the 9th and 10th of July with the fifth round of the Classic Racing Motorcycle Clubs championships. There is a packed programme of races on both days catering for pre 1972 Classic and pre 1984 Post Classic solos and sidecars. Feature races include the Charlie Sanby Trophy Race, the Classic “King of Brands” and the fifth round of the ACU UK 500cc Classic Championship currently headed by Lincolnshire man Andrew Taylor. Top Classic rider Mike Cooper will standing in for injured Alan Oversby on the Craven Manx. Practice starts at 9am on Saturday with racing following on shortly afterwards.
