Maxxis Final Showdown Heads to Little Silver (Preview Included)

This weekend the eighth and final round of the 2012 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championships will take place at the Little Silver. The natural hillside circuit is sure to produce some great racing in all four classes and to add to the excitement all the titles have still yet to be decided. A great way to finish what has been a fantastic season.

Coming into the final round, the MX2 Championship battle is set to continue with only 16 points separating current leader Mel Pocock and Elliott Banks Browne. Both riders have been in fine form, exchanging race wins all season long. Pocock recently clinched the UEM European EMX250 Championship and will be looking to add the Maxxis title to his CV.

The Little Silver event also features another combined class race at the end of the day, where the 2012 MX2 title will most likely be decided. Currently in third place in the Championship is Neville Bradshaw on the Evo Tech Stevens Honda, ahead of Steven Lenoir and Bryan Mackenzie on the Pendrich KTM in fifth.

In the MX1 class, Kevin Strijbos leads the Series by 58 points over Shaun Simpson. The Belgium rider could seal his first National Championship with a strong result in the opening race. Simpson will be hoping to repeat his performance from last year where he took the overall victory at the same venue. Third place is currently held by Gert Krestinov on the Route77 Energy MVR-D Honda ahead of the injured STR KTM rider Matiss Karro. Martin Barr and Jamie Law will also be looking to move into the top five of the overall championship standings and overturn Karro.

Little Silver will also have the added excitement of reigning MX1 Champion Brad Anderson making his return to British action on the Carlton Dry Honda. Anderson has recently signed a deal to race for the Maxxis Kawasaki by LPE team in 2013 and will be keen to prove that he is still a strong title contender by challenging Strijbos. Buildbase Honda’s Nico Aubin also moves into the MX1 class from MX2 with the Championship now out of reach, the team are looking to build and prepare to the 2013 season and gain some strong results.

This weekend’s racing will also feature the final round of the Veterans Championship, currently leading the championship is Phil Mercer on his KTM ahead of Terry House, Gary Hoptrough and Greg Hanson. All four riders are separated by only 12 points and with two races left in the Championship anything could happen.

Little Silver marks the final round of the new MXY85 series, which has produced some superb racing in the previous two rounds. Will Keogh currently leads the series on 81 points with Josh Gilbert, Todd Kellett and Gradie Featherstone all tied on 75 points in second to fourth places. Jordan Eccles in fifth place sits a further 7 points back.

The Little Silver circuit offers excellent all round viewing and is easily reached from the end of the M5 motorway. The action starts with the MX2 Qualifying session at 8.45am with the first championship race at 12.15pm. Tickets for the Maxxis Championship cost £20 for Adults and £5 for children under 14, for more information see www.mxgb.co.uk
