What's on Weekly-27th, 28th and 29th August
This weeks ‘What’s on Weekly’ features more events from around the country. Here is a selection of just a few events taking place.
Motocross
This August Bank Holiday sees the 45th running of the famous Ken Hall trophy. As is now customary Sunday is Twin Shock and Classic Day with the Dave Thorpe Evo Championship Final Round plus a Pre85 Twin Shock Class and an Open Twinshock Class and for the first time Classic Sidecars. The meeting will also be hosting a round of the British Quad championships, top names include Winrow, Holmes, Murphy, Macbeth and Watson and other great riders. Monday is the day when you can see the Top International solo's and sidecars This year the event is hosting a round of the British Sidecar Championship with riders such as Brown, Millard and Etheridge plus the added excitement of top International Sidecar teams Rupeiks, Hendrikx, Bax, and Soderqvist which should make for superb racing. The main Ken Hall trophy features the likes of "bad boy” Brad Anderson fresh from his great ride at Matterly Basin at the GP in Winchester last weekend. Elliott Banks-Browne, Mel Pockock, Local Bordon lad Alan Keet, Alfie Smith, Alex Snow and Liam Garland to name but a few and also returning from Injury Zach Osborne. All in all a Great Value for money weekend with great racing and a superb trade village with some great food on offer, Don’t miss it. Two miles south of Petersfield on the A272, Manor Farm, Langrish.
This weekend the Phoenix Tools Premier Motocross Championship kicks back into action for the second time of asking at the ever popular Landrake Moto Parc in Cornwall for round 8 in the ten round series. Defending Champion John May on the Meredith Suzuki still leads the Phoenix Tools MX1 Championship by 98 points from Luke Hill who had moved up in to 2nd at the last round, but is still in a fierce battle with Belgium rider Maarten Cremers on the Phoenix Tools CCM who is just 7 points behind in third spot, but there are several other riders who will be lining up beside them like Sam Chapman, Ben Harmon, Luke Blanchard, Tom Harvey, Kelvin Townsend plus many more. In the St Blazey MX2 Championship its Jamie Skuse on the DMX/MX-Zone Honda who leads the proceedings by 83 points from defending Champion Luke Mellows on the Meredith Suzuki with Maunders Racing Wayne Shimell there in 3rd, but just as with the MX1 there is plenty of other talent lining up like Will Worden, Nick Wadge and Harry Snow to name a few. In the M D Racing Over 35 Championship it’s still Martyn Tucker who leads the Championship but only by 30 points from Keith Hanson who took the overall at the last round. Lying in third spot just 42 points adrift of Hanson is Chris Brown who will have plenty to go for along with the likes of Rob Lewis, Greg Brooks, Tony Bayliss plus many others. In the Petersen Racing Junior Championship its Bill Farleigh who tops the standings by 45 points from Harvie Templeton-Banks who took his first win at the last round as did Michael Rowe who is just 25 points behind in 3rd spot. Others to contend with will be the likes of Anthony Milliar, Jordan Owen, Curtis Hunt, Jake Owen plus many others. Landrake Moto Parc has excellent viewing and easy parking and is situated just five minutes South of the Tamar Bridge on the A38 with the first race at 10-30am. On Monday 29th August the Woodbridge Dmcc will be hosting a motocross meeting at their Blaxhall Circuit. The meeting also features a round of the NGR Championship and will also feature Expert and Junior classes. The Club is also looking to run a 2 stroke only class depending on the numbers of entries. The club is also offering riders the chance to double up on classes and enter both the 2 stroke class and one other class for £60. This offer will allow riders to get 6 races for the price of £60. Enduro
This weekend MWTRA Promoters will be hosting the fifth round of the British Metzeler ACU British Enduro Championship at Melin Llifio, close to the Dyfi Forest. Clerks of the Course Aled Lloyd-Jones, Gwylim Davies and Wyn Thomas are again working hard on the route to make it interesting and technical without been too difficult with a lap of approx. 25 mile in this beautifully and mainly rocky area. The special test will again be three in one with a XC section and an Extreme section (with chicken runs for those that do not fancy the shorter and potentially quicker extreme section) and a MX section which speaks for itself. The event will be starting at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday.
Trials
On Saturday 27th August the West of England Motorcycle club will be hosting a Beginners Summer Trial at Levaton Woods in Denbury. The event will be starting at 2pm and the club is offering the first riders to provide an Observe will receive a Free ride. Entries can also be made on the day.
Grasstrack
It’s now only a few days to the 2011 UEM European Solo Final on 27th and 28th August 2011 at the fabulous Thorpe St Peter circuit, close to the holiday resort of Skegness and home of the famous Lincolnshire Poacher event. The full line up of 18 world elite riders who will battle for the European title is now known. Heading up a strong contingent of home contenders is reigning European Champion,Andrew Appleton along with Glen Phillips, David Howe, Richard Hall, Mitch Godden and UK based Aussie Rod MacDonald. An awesome line up of overseas stars includes the German powerhouse of Richard Speiser, two-time European Champion Stephan Katt and Martin Smolinski - second, third and fourth respectively in the 2011 World Longtrack GP standings. With former European Champions, Stephane Tresarrieu (France) and Theo Pijper (Netherlands) in the lineup along with leading Czech riders Ales Dryml and Josef Franc, this is sure to be an absolute blockbuster. Running in conjunction with the European Final will be the 2011 staging of the prestigious Lincolnshire Poacher races. The climax of the event sees the four top Poacher solo riders go head to head against four top European Championship riders in a dramatic shoot-out for the 2011 Poacher Solo Super Final. Poacher solo competitors include defending champion Tom Perry, Paul Cooper, Chris Mills, Jamie Rodgers, Tim Nobes, Charlie Saunders and spectacular Dutch youngster Lars Zandvliet. The Poacher Sidecar event sees reigning champions Rob Bradley and Shaun Simpson go head to head against 11 other top crews including newly crowned British Masters Champions Rod Winterburn and Liam Brown. Saturday 27th August sees official practice for all European Finalists from 2pm, along with qualification races for final places in the Poacher Sidecar line up. On Saturday evening there is a full programme of live entertainment on stage in the barn including a live band, comedian and other entertainment, as well as autograph signing and interviews with the top riders. There is a fully licensed late bar with real ale and a selection of hot food is available. Sunday 28th August sees practice for Poacher competitors from 11am with the days race programme commencing at 1pm. Admission includes superb camping and caravanning facilities at the trackside for the whole weekend, no booking is required, just turn up. There are modern flush toilets, hot showers and all the attractions of Skegness just four miles away - why not join us for an August Bank Holiday weekend to remember? Road Racing
The ACU drag championships are being contested at Stratford-Upon-Avon’s Shakespeare County Raceway this weekend. Following the summer break, the organising club Avon Park International Racing Association is expecting a bumper entry in all 5 ACU classes from the nitro burners in Top Fuel to the 190 mph seven second world of Super Street. There will also be national championship action from the newly established 8.50 Bike class as well as 9.50 Bike, National Association of Supertwins and Junior Drag Bike categories. From the three rounds contested so far, Graham Dance and his powerful 1425cc G-Sign Suzuki currently leads the ultra-competitive Super Street Bike class over the 1300cc Suzuki of Steve Venables. Harold Wolfenden’s 1299cc Suzuki. Triggers Broom leads a revitalised Competition Bike category over the 1640cc Suzuki of Warpspeed Racing’s Stuart Crane. In Pro Stock Bike, its European jet setter Len Paget on his experimental White Lightening 4-Link Suzuki leading class over Dave Beck while in Funny Bike the French Injection Kawasaki leads over. The Shakespeare County Raceway is situated 6 miles south of the historic town of Stratford with free grandstands, pit access, parking, weekend camping and much more. Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Race Championship enters its latter stages this weekend when Round 6 takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August 2011 and you can guarantee there will be plenty of excitement. The circuit is open from 5.00pm on Friday and at just £5 per night for a tent or caravan, plus the cost of admission to Monday’s meeting why not take the opportunity to have a short break before the children go back to school? You can even bring the dog along, if kept on the lead. With some competitors making their annual trip to the Manx Grand Prix it may leave the door open for others to enjoy an advantage and turn the Championship standings around completely. As always Practice begins at 10.00 AM with the first race expected at 11.30 AM. Entrance admission Adults £11.00, Senior Citizens £6.00, kids under 16 free, parking & paddock transfer free, with Programmes £3.00. Food is available throughout both days at the ‘Darley Diner’.
